Club Statement: Coronavirus

This is a big problem for the PL. Essentially it's UEFA saying that they will want to continue the CL and EL. That is only going to delay potential finishing further.

At some point we are going to have to acknowledge what the real debate is. We either play 1/4 of this season, or we play it from start to finish. They are increasingly looking like the options. For most clubs, in fact I'd say all clubs, financially starting the season afresh will be the financially more prudent option. For a small handful of clubs they may lose out, and of that group a few may say they lose out so much that it's worth the sacrifice for them. I don't think it's worth the sacrifice for football though.

Agreed, it's a game of poker. The PL hold the majority of the chips, but their hand is weak. If they don't align to a UEFA calendar very very quickly, the big PL clubs will be on their way to European superleague as quick as they can

Name calling, what bad name have I called you, hair spliter could be construed as a name but hair splitting can't. Dear me more invention

This is what previously permanently banned users tend to do to try and cover their tracks, play the victim card.

No it isn't, not at all. Absolutely no one has said that next season has to start in August.

But it has to end in May?

What about the following season after that, does that have to start in August and end in May?

If your answer to both of those questions is 'No' then I can't see how there will be a fixture pile-up whatsoever, or a need to cancel or shorten competitions, which is a central pillar of your argument.

At what point does your reshuffling of all seasons for the foreseeable future end? At some point we're going to have to go back to August-May anyway unless you're sound with having every international tournament played in the winter for the rest of time. At least you'd get your parade though, and that's all that matters.

Mikeh - the only reason I got sucked into this thread, is I suggested that if the coronavirus based delay might see a huge change to the calendars over three or four years; the key argument from multiple people (pages 123 - circa 150) was football needs to get back to normal in August for next season and so on. From what I have read, which is most of the bloody thread is Aug - May is the #1 priority (after safety obviously)

Your entire argument is that this season has to finish before next season starts, which will affect many seasons going forward, rather than ending this season now and only affecting one season.

One thing I'm looking forward to with the start of a new season is how good the atmosphere will be, everyone will be in such good spirits.

Sadly expecting a minute of silence but the roar at goodison after it will be special.

Depends how important the authorities deem the August-May calendar to be. If they deem it as important as you appear to, then they could get back to it within 2-3 seasons fairly easily by delaying the starts of subsequent seasons, cancelling non-competitive international games and ending seasons earlier. It's not exactly complex scheduling to return to that if that's the outcome they seek.

On the other side of the coin, they may be not bothered and could decide to run future Footy seasons October-July, with World Cups taking place in August and September rather than June and July.

Heaven forbid, eh.

At some point we're going to have to go back to August-May anyway unless you're sound with having every international tournament played in the winter for the rest of time.

Another assumption. Just as feasible that future International tournaments could be played in the Spring or the Autumn, what would be wrong with that? The next one is going to be played in Winter, so I don't see it being an insurmountable challenge. Football is played, in club or international format, all year round. I

@Keiran said he's happy to resume playing when this "flattens out". Utterly vile human being.

I've said today, and have repeatedly said, Football should only resume when the authorities say it's safe to do so.

When that time is, when it's safe to do so, is for nobody but Chris Whitty and co to decide.

If it helps you sleep at night to think I'm some inhuman monster who doesn't appreciate the value of life, Mike, that's fine.

You've just absolutely filled ANOTHER post with assumptions, and then had a go at me for making an assumption?? You need to stop this ridiculous behaviour Cookachoo.
