Club Statement: Coronavirus

We are currently at the tail end of one season and it is natural that people are talking about this season at the moment.

If football can recommence in August or more likely September then I think the conversation will have switched to season 20/21.

It will not solve anything if by finishing this season we then cannot finish next season either and we know the Euros are gong ahead next summer which means next season cannot run on into the summer.

At the moment I would guess that in Italy and Spain that football is a very low priority that will probably be England in just a few weeks.
Judging by how people reacted to social distancing over the weekend I fear you could be right

Think this will be a major reset in all our lives. Almost everyone and most businesses will be affected.
If football thinks they are immune to this then they are living in cloud cuckoo land.
Had that conversation earlier
I think this will have dramatic effects on the world and the way we live in it
Better healthcare ,more working from home, less foreign travel will all become the new norm

im going to work off the optimistic assumption that there is a clearance to play around September time, which appears to be the hopeful timescale for life getting back to whatever "new normal" is

I think this will lead to the following......

1) 3 week mini preseason & CL, UEFA cup and all major leagues finishing up by mid / late November
2) Euros moved again to November 2021
3) 2021 European wide new season from Jan - Oct, with a mid season break in August for high temperatures. Euros now November December
4) Same for 2022 with World cup as scheduled in Qatar
5) Try to recalibrate 2023 with a Jan - July season
6) 2024 - Sept - June

I am not Nostradamus, but I think there is certainly a realisation that more than likely they will finish out this season as irrelevant as it might be - from there it's an absolute guessing game, but that is mine
Lad I have no idea on what planet you live ,but I can guarantee that the only other person living on it is @Keiran
I have seen some bizarre posts on here but that is up there with the best

Serious question mate, bearing in mind you're about to see a World Cup played in December in Qatar in the not too distant future, how do you propose the league accommodate that?

Is it to be a mid-season World Cup? Or will the calendars be adjusted to ensure the prior domestic season(s) finish in October / November time?

No such thing as a wrong answer on that one, just interested to hear your opinion.

I think the Euros next season has created a problem for the domestic leagues as it means they will all need to be finished sometime in May.
If it was not for those they could run the domestic leagues until sometime in June and then start season 21/22 a couple of weeks later.

There is no point finishing season 19/20 if you then cannot finish season 20/21 on time. I genuinely believe it all depends on how serious this crisis becomes and how long it goes on for.

Regarding the World Cup in Qatar , I would start the league as normal, take a break from all leagues to hold the tournament and then re start some time after the tournament finishes, that at least would more or less protect the timing of the league as it currently stands.

I think the move of the Euro's is on the assumption that European football is starting up by June (as per their statements of finishing hopefully by july 31st); Now that they have moved it, there will be no issue moving again if needed & in a weird way, aligning to Qatar could make a lot of sense.

as per 19/20 & 20/21 - All discussion (at present) suggesting you cannot start 20/21 without 19/20 coming to conculsion, in some form or other.

Out of curiousity, break down what you fundamentally disagree with, given my post is under the assumption (Guessing obviously) no football til September at the earliest......

Go....

What if some clubs don't exist any more after all this.
This isn't just the PL. The whole pyramid needs taking into account.

If the same teams aren't able to complete the season then it's null and void.

This isn't a Bury situation as they hadn't played anyone.

Technically speaking, I just think those who go to the wall just have their fixtures H&A voided - but you are right, we are entering into a brand new reality where it is going to be massively different. the PL will & must do everything they can to guarantee this season's TV money. I suspect you might see some sort of hybrid model - Get the PL and Championship finished to make sure that revenue can trickle down to all (in reality this will be a token 5%) gesture from the PL

UEFA have moved the Euros to allow leagues to finish before the start of a new season.

With Champions League and Europa League commitments, they will ENSURE they have these will be completed especially after moving a major tournament which generates millions.

Regarding Leagues, I think they will have showdowns in terms of cancellation due to time constraints on the Coronavirus spreading rapidly plus Governments worldwide having issues with non essential activities.

I fear UEFA will ban English clubs for not complying to their rules which will see clubs missing out on millions for the Premiership utter idiotically to finish this season despite Italy, Germany and others being realistic and having the discussion to void their seasons for the big picture of safety.

Realistic Timetable
Void the League - Immediately
Champions League/Europa finished - August 2020
New Season - October 2020 (closed doors potentially)
No Winter Break
African Nations - January 2021
Reduced Cup Replays for cup competitions including Champions League.
Reduced International Friendlies
Season finishes - June 2021
Euros - July 2021

That would be an even bigger can of worms.
Relegation and promotion places could change drastically.

Can't see anything but voiding being the safest option for the authorities.
