We'll await your update...

It's a ripping read, right enough.

The wording is such that you could read it either way. "Each club shall during the season play every other club twice at home and away" is the first line.

"At the end of the season the club at the top of the table shall be declared champions" is the last relevant bit.

So you could read it as the season being 38 games and every team playing every other team twice. Or you could read it as the season being whatever they say it is. There is no guidance on a short season.

Probably means they'll just give Liverpool the trophy then

Oh well, at least they won't win it properly and the shine will get taken off it a bit

They can’t honour one team’s position in the league and not honour others. Can’t declare a league winner but then not declare who is relegated CL etc. Either the whole thing is finished and counts or it’s voided. There’s no in between without massive legal suits.

... so it's in the rules that for the league competition to be valid, all games must be played.

Pages 173-175 of the Premier League Rulebook do not say when the games must be played, so in theory a postponed fixture can be rescheduled to whenever they like. However, it's clear that all games must be played for the league competition to be valid, so they can't just call the season "as is" and declare the positions final.

Aha! In the definitions "Season" is defined as "the period beginning on the date of the first fixture on the league's fixture list and ending on the date of the last"

So you have to complete the fixtures.
