since he did none of those things, that should have been a goal

The problem is that the wording of the rules means very little because the PGMOL will wriggle around it with their subjective interpretation (ignoring of) the rules.

Ali's handball earlier this season is a great example, where they claimed that because he was under pressure it wasn't handball. Where's that stated?

Couldn't have wiped out Sigurdsson any more.

Correct, if VAR was doing it’s job properly, it should’ve been brought back for a pen and a possible sending off too.

these are the rules.

1. interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate or
2. interfering with an opponent by:

• preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or
• challenging an opponent for the ball or
• clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent or
• making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball

In the first season with var, united have had 20 pens.

We've had 1 in league cup.

My United mates are adamant that they get no decisions though. Haven't done in a decade apparently.

Exactly this mate, when he wiped out Sigurdsson AFTER he shot I think it's fair enough to not give it. But Sigurdsson getting snapped is directly the reason for him to be where he was which stopped our goal in which case bring it back for the pen.

I've given up thinking its poor officiating nowadays because I choose to believe if someone is so bad at their job then they'd be replaced. But that doesn't seem to apply to refs.
