I was thinking last night this season is a bit of an anomaly, you have Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Utd all tanking its like the year Leicester won the league - if we had our act together we really should be capitalizing and making a play for the CL.

We are 12th because for the first 6 months we had an utter donkey in charge who failed to negotiate a welcome set of opening figures, we could be 9th come 5pm today. We also got lucky in scrambling to 8th the year before after a s

We slept walked to 8th the season before Silva came in because Koeman royally screwed up the first half of the season then Fat Sam refused to push the squad on to a better position when it was wide open

The first Koeman season was a marked improvement on the previous 2 disasters under Martinez because for one the players looked more up for it and 2 because we didn’t spend like a drunken sailor that summer

We are under a world class coach who will get an extra 10-15% out of this squad the more he works with them and next season will reflect that greatly

But how do you reconcile that with the widely reported fact that brands wanted silva to stay? Either silva wasn’t as bad as you say, or brands’s judgement is extremely questionable. Can’t have it both ways.

You are making excuses after excuse after excuse for finishing 7/8th, possibly lower and no good in cups season after season after season.

I don't want to sound patronising as you sound like an intelligent fella but you are completely blinkered to reality.

We keep finishing 8th because we are the 8th best team in the league - largely due to winning lots of home game, especially when the pressure is off 2nd half of a season. With this squad we will do well to finish 8th next season.

We are probably about the 25th best cup team in England - that tells you all you need to know about the players mental strengths or how they cope with individual pressure games.

Is is time for people to stop making excuses for the faillings of everyone from the ownership through DOF, through managers, through players.

Demand change, a change of culture, of expectation. But most importantly demand a change of a large number of players.

Ps. An extra 10% would get is about 5 extra points a season which doesn't get us close to 6th place. And I cant see an extra 10% doing much for our utterly dismal cup record over the last few years.
