Buying a good midfielder who is over 30 is just wasting money to me, the rest of our team isn't good enough to make sense doing that this season. Only time you should really look at it is if we think it will make the difference between us making champions league or not.

We aren't catching Chelsea. We'd have to finish the season at a much better clip than City and Leicester have played year to date to catch up to where Chelsea is likely to finish, based on current points.

He'd cost over 50m

No thanks

And he rode pine at Liverpool besides. He'd set you back the price of a starting Liverpool forward for an inferior player.

They can't sell him anyway, for risk of the drop. He's their Grealish right now. If PSG showed up with whatever they're likely to get from selling Neymar back to Barca, they'd do that deal and reload. But PSG won't show up, and Southampton can't settle for less.

Go get Ings immediately

Lad will have us top 6 with his transformation.

STOP. THIS. NONSENSE!!!

Ings is having a rare purple patch where he’s actually bothered to remember he’s a striker and score more than 10 for once, only the 3rd time in his entire career he’s done it, and that’s when playing at levels where hitting double figures every season should be a given. If he scores 5 more, it’ll be the first time in 6 years he’s hit 20 in a league season , for someone who wants the club to show ambition, you don’t half pick some weird (and pricey) choices to prove that

So when DCL scores goals he's developing his game, showing promise

When Ings does the same hes simply having a Purple patch?

Same rubbish from the Ings haters whos making them look VERY silly this season. :coffee:

Danny ings is 28 in July mate, and has had a history of injuries. He is not getting any better. Under a new system, new club, new manager etc it will take him time to settle in. Southampton paid a massive fee for him already, and would want an even bigger one to let go. We would be buying at the top end of the market. It would be a really naive move, like the ones that saw us buy William's, Sigurdsson and Bolasie.

Lessons should be learnt re Ings. We need to find the next Ings. A player with talent, who will suit the system.

Let's have a deal, this time next year, Ings will have under 8 goals that season.

As for Calvert Lewin, hes 22, has knee goals than Ings over the last 5 years and offers a lot more in terms of all round play. He will still be moved on if someone bids more than 50 million for him as it's an insane fee. Spending that much on Ings would be even more levels of insanity.

Mate, there’s strikers in League One who have outscored Ings not just this season but every season. If he’s that quality he’d be hitting double figures every year not 3 times in an 11 year career. Ollie Watkins at Brentford is 3 years younger and has hit 10 or more goals 5 out the last 6 seasons, 2 of those playing in L2 with Exeter, one was in the Conference South at Weston and the last 3 with Brentford in the Championship, 3 completely different levels and still hitting double figures

Ancelotti is here 4 years mate.

Im not bothered with all this Zatara wet dream scenario of signing a bunch of 19/20 year old players who will be good in 5 years when Carlo's gone and we likely have another perennial hipster loser like Silva as manager.

I want players in that 24-28 bracket who are doing the business now and if Ings is that man so be it. Liverpool have done it perfectly - look at who they have signed in recent years:

Salah: 27
Alison: 27
Fabinho: 26
Van Dijk: 28

Players in there prime who can contribute NOW not in 3-4 years.

We need to get out of this mentality of building for a future that will never come. By all means bring in the odd young promising player but our business over these next 2 windows should be ready players who can make an impact.

Yes agreed Ings isn’t for us, but we have a striker very similar.

I think we need to sign younger players, but I'm also open to signing lads who are older. However Ings smacks to me of a player who is having a massive hot streak, based on familiar surroundings and a team who play to suit his game. We would be buying at the top end of the market, and feels a lot like Sigurdsson and to a degree Bolasie.

Can I ask for how long you've liked Ings? I think the time to have got Ings would probably have been when he signed for Liverpool.

Agree, we've been constantly signing one for the future seems like there's at least 1 a window but they never progress.
