If I was in his position I probably wouldn't either. He's seen his two compatriots unceremoniously turfed out of the club, the chances of playing in his favoured position are fairly remote, he's seen the club turn the fans against him and he'd be turning down the chance of a fat signing on fee somewhere else. He strikes me as the sort of lad to make a stand as a point of principle. It would be bad news losing him, Yak and Vaughany.

If we're not careful we could have a real problem here. Half the squad seem to have one foot out of Goodison. And the worst thing is, most of them aren't commanding any kind of fee... Anichebe could go for free, Pienaar probably will, Yak's fee will be minimal, Vaughan's too... Jesus Christ.

I'd be quite happy with Vaughan and Anichebe as back up to Saha and Beckford. I can't see how they're any worse than the majority of strikers in the league.

I've been saying the same thing. We're going to be short on squad numbers and no money for replacements. It wouldn't be a bad idea to blood the kids just in case.

I'm not saying Vaughan going could have anything to do with Anichebe leaving. It was more that Moyes doesn't seem to rate him too highly anymore (not close to first choice ST, and Coleman's taken over the wing), the fans turned against him at the drop of a hat, and he could go for free to another prem club and get some dosh but more importantly, more playing time. From his perspective, I can't think of many reasons to stay.

I still want him to, though. He's going to be the scouse Drogba; stand on me for that one.

Two or three seasons ago Vaughan looked like he was going to mature into a really good player. I know he's had his injuries, but I don't feel like he's had a fair crack of the whip.
