Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

FYLDE CONTINUE IMPRESSIVE FORM

tranmere result.webp

It was an opportunity for Fylde to close the gap on the teams above and put some distance between themselves and potential relegation. The game didn't get off to how Fylde desired when Tranmere got off to a good start down the right flank with right winger Oliver Hawtin beating Tyler Garrett for pace and crossing for the powering head of centre forward Macauley Bonne. Tranmere held firm onto their lead but it just was not working for The Coasters and they failed to create anything substantial during the first half. Ferguson made half-time changes as he replaced anchor man Ryan Croasdale for attacking midfielder Richie Ginnelly, the change paying off when a neatly worked corner from Charlie McCann found Henderson on the edge of the box who took a hopeful shot on his left foot beating Luke Pilling in goal. Fylde got back on the front foot when a minute later the excellent vision from midfielder Chalie McCann saw O'Neill peeling off the last defender and played a quality ball over the top for the striker to chase down and put it past Pilling in a very cool fashion. 2-1 to The Coasters and they were cruising to victory. Charlie Mccann proving what an essential provider he is for the team grabbing his 12th assist of the season putting him on level with James Hardy who currently holds the record for the most assists in a season for Fylde in 20/21. Fylde played out the remainder of the game comfortably, Morgan Feeney putting in a great display in central defence.

When you think there could be a slip-up for Fylde, you may think it would be against a side who have won 1 game in 33. It was shaky at times as the sides went into the break at 0-0 but the result was never in doubt when McCann scored an excellent goal firing into the top corner from 18 yards out. The moment of relief for the away fans and especially Ferguson who was beginning to look worried. Tyrone O'Neill once again used his pace to beat two Maidenhead defenders before sliding it past an already committed Harry Tyrer to give Fylde a two goal cushion. On-loan defender Ian Patterson came on to replace a tiring Tyler Garrett and the whole stadium applauded the efforts of Charlie McCann who was replaced by Kyle MacDonald with 5 minutes remaining. Maidenhead pushed forward into stoppage time but the Fylde back line dealt well with the threat clearing the ball to safety time after time. Kieran Knowles managed to get one through a compact back line in the 93rd minute to give Maidenhead a glimmer of hope and put them back into the game - Ferguson instructing his players to stay focused and keep possession, to which they did in the final two minutes. The whistle sounded to the delight of Fylde's players and manager to give them yet another good result.

DF: I make that 13 points from a possible 15. It's a great start and it's important to keep going. We've got two home games coming up in four days with the latter taking on leaders Sutton. That will be a true test to see where we are in this league. The lads are performing well and we have the ability in this squad to finish strongly.

CROASDALE RESCUES LATE POINT

Kings lynn result.webp

Fylde could have been mistaken for thinking this game was already won before kick-off and King's Lynn had other ideas. Fylde gave away a cheap free-kick near to the touchline on line with the edge of the 18 yard box and this was crossed in to the box to be met with Lewis Forman's head who aimed for the far post, Liam Moran was first to react to the bobbling ball who tapped it into the back of the net. A rare lead for King's Lynn who have struggled to find good form recently. As the opposition opted to play eleven men behind the ball, it was a wise tactic to stop the oncoming onslaught from Fylde who tried to grab an equaliser before the half ended with Tyrone O'Neill's shot just drifting wide of the post. D'Margio Wright-Phillips hit his shot into the ground after receiving a great ball from Henderson on the left hand side but Wright-Phillips overthought the shot and it bounced clear. King's Lynn happy with their lead at this point going into the second half and Ferguson deciding to put Sarkic on for Ginnelly and went two up front to pile on the pressure. There was no way King's Lynn could keep up their defensive battle and on 81 minutes Tariq Lamptey received the ball back from the throw-in deep in the opposition half and crossed in towards the near post to Ryan Croasdale who got in front of his marker and side footed the ball past the keeper to make it 1-1! With the ball being swept out the net by the Fylde players, they could not find the late winner despite having successive corners late on in the game to which were dealt with well by King's Lynn. Euan Henderson was played in by O'Neill in the final minutes of the game and his shot rattled the post to the relief of the away fans. Final score: 1-1.

It wasn't the best start for Fylde against league leaders Sutton Utd when they found themselves 2-0 down after just 15 minutes. Ben Hinchliffe rode the tackles from Lamptey and MacDonald and shot low under the arms of Griffiths to put Sutton in the lead. Not so long after they got their second. Henderson gave the ball away cheaply to Tommy Wright who launched a long ball forward on the counter for Crowther who had the beating of the last defender and doubled Sutton's lead. All to do for Fylde and they grabbed one back a few minutes later when wing back Garrett crossed to poacher O'Neill who knocked it home. The equaliser came for Fylde when Wright-Phillips headed on Griffiths' goal kick into the path of O'Neill who still had to beat the Sutton central defence, instead he took a look up and hit one from outside the box which curled into the bottom left corner. 2-2 on the stroke of half-time and Fylde looking like they are about to dominate the game. Three minutes after the kick-off for the second half, Lamptey played a wonderful ball to the far post for Henderson but he headed inches wide. Lamptey was a constant threat down the right flank putting in many crosses for the front line this time the ball being headed away and Brett McGavin striking over the bar. Richie Ginnelly took control of the ball in the final third and with only O'Neill showing for him played the ball into his feet, the striker took a step to the right before hitting it across the bobbly pitch and over the hands of Hawkins who was disappointed with himself for not stopping the shot. Tyrone O'Neill in trememdous form getting a hat-trick for The Coasters. With 30 minutes still to play and a slender lead to hold on to, Fylde remained in the driving seat and held their nerve to take all 3 points after being 2-0 down inside the first 15 minutes. An incredible fightback!

DF: Lamptey was great tonight, O'Neill was fantastic. He's been working hard and now the goals are flowing. The defence played very well, it was a good performance and the correct reaction to going down early on. Most sides would have struggled at that point but we seemed to kick on and dug our heels in. I'm proud of the lads tonight after that and especially against one of the better teams this season. I believe we can still get better. Blackpool will be a tough test with it being a local derby, we beat them 2-0 earlier this season and we have been in good form, it will count for something when we go there this weekend.

Blackpool are now managed by Peter Crouch who was a close rival to Duncan Ferguson when he was at Leyton Orient between 2020-23 when both sides went head to head for promotion. Now they are both managers of the two clubs along the Lancashire coast.

DANNY ROWE INJURED.webp

With Danny Rowe's injury keeping him out for the rest of the season, it is unlikely we will see him in a Fylde shirt again. The Fylde legend has not played a game this season and if Ferguson had any ideas about giving him one last run out to say his farewell, it looks like that opportunity has gone. Danny Rowe has scored 203 league goals in 365 league appearances for Fylde. The clubs record goalscorer. The striker could be given a contract extension but this injury could see Danny Rowe retire from the game.

Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling,
It's you, it's you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow,
It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow,
Oh, Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so!
But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying,
If I am dead, as dead I well may be,
You'll come and find the place where I am lying,
And kneel and say an Ave there for me.
And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me,
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be,
For you will bend and tell me that you love me,
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me!

That's pushed me over the edge. I'm blubbing like Miss Bolton in the centre circle with Big Dunc, except not with happiness.

I need a cool breeze with a hint of drizzle whilst I look across the sea from the Fylde escalade for a couple of hours. I might be a while. Danny Rowe being out has shaken my very soul. Can't let the lads see any negative emotion in the run up to business end of the season. I'll be back when I can smile again and cheer on those brave little soldiers in the USM Mill Farm Sports Village.
