Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

IMPRESSIVE FYLDE COAST ON!

View attachment 67866

When Blackpool first met Fylde in League Two it was clear who the stand out performers were but fast forward 18 months later and it's clear that tide has shifted to Fylde who looked a step above their counter parts today. Guy Morgan gave Blackpool the lead with a low free kick into the bottom corner which had the beating of Griffiths. Fylde came out the blocks from the start of the second half and were carving their way through the Blackpool defence, the equaliser came after 7 minutes when Henderson played a cutting ball through to McGavin who hit it first time into the top left corner. The threat was still there when Ashley Hammond had a shot whistle past the post two minutes later. Five minutes from time and Fylde enjoying possession, slow build up going forward and Henderson found Wright-Phillips, he hit it with the inside of the boot and it curled just inches over the bar. Blackpool retreating into their own half at this point and look happy to take the draw. Ferguson urged his team forward in the dying minutes, Griffiths launched the goal kick up field, Roache won the ball for Blackpool and drove forward into the Fylde penalty box but a last ditch tackle from MacDonald won the ball back for Fylde, he launched it forward for Sarkic on the right side who saw the run of O'Neill, the ball went in for O'Neill who hit it first time on a left footed volley. 2-1! Fylde took all three points in a game they deserved to win and Blackpool could only see it coming.

The game started cagey from both sides with Scunthorpe enjoying more of the ball but unable to break down the Fylde defence, Feeney and MacDonald looking in good form. Fylde looked to go more attacking and it paid off instantly when left back Tyler Garrett got forward and crossed for the domineering head of in form striker Tyrone O'Neill, the centre forward jumping high to tower over the defence and put it straight into the back of the net! Henderson spotted the run of McGavin from midfield and played the ball in just before he would've been offside and he struck it perfectly into the top corner, Fylde going into the break 2-0 up against promotion chasing Scunthorpe. A minute after the restart and Fylde caught Scunthorpe napping, Henderson threading the ball through for O'Neill to chase and he buried it low and hard but the flag was raised on the far side. On replay, it looked very tight. Fylde continued their fast flowing attacking football and this time it was Ginnelly who had clear sight of goal and his right footed shot flew past the Scunthorpe keeper. 3-0 and Fylde well out of sight. It could certainly have been more for Fylde who put in a top class performance. A well deserved win and a big push towards the play-offs!

DF: Very impressive football out there, we work hard day in, day out to perfect this style of play. Going forward we are looking incredible, O'Neill is in the form of his life as are 5 or 6 others, defensively we have improved, Feeney has been quality once again. A clean sheet against a top side like Scunthorpe is something to be proud of this evening. We have to keep this momentum.

What an impressive run of form! Fylde now two points from play-offs after being candidates for the drop when Ferguson first took over. The manager has got the players believing in themselves once again and they are playing out of their skin for the manager. Fylde are currently in very dangerous form.

Superb, 9 point gap closed. To 2 points

What's the next set of fixtures, the dogs just eaten me Fylde season ticket with the games on the back!

DEARNLEY RUNS RIOT

notts county result.webp

Ferguson was looking for his eighth win out of ten games upon Fylde's visit to Nottingham to play Notts County. County were hot on the march for promotion back to League Two and judging how this game went, they left no stone unturned. A rather poor display from the lads from the Lancashire coast and a stand-out performance from winger Zak Dearnley left Fylde reeling. Notts County were the better team throughout the 90 minutes and took all three goals very well. Dearnley's first goal of the day could have been stopped as Lamptey allowed him to cut inside and a swerving shot took it away from Griffiths who made a half hearted save at the far post. Brett McGavin saw his shot glance wide upon the half-time whistle, could have been a wonderful time for Fylde to equalise in this one-sided contest. Dearnley was involved in the second goal as he laid the ball across for Freeman to hit first time, unmarked in the box and no challenge from a Fylde player. A County counter attack led to the third goal, Griffiths saving the one on one with Freeman but Dearnley scored from the resulting corner to send Fylde home with some food for thought.

DF: It wasn't how we wanted to play out there and it was men against boys. We were last to every ball and had nothing today. They say a loss has to come sometime so thinking positively, to lose here against a quality side is not too disheartening, it's just the manner of our performance that leaves a bitter taste. We've been in magnificent form lately and something like this is usually the result of over confidence. We thought we only had to show up, it'll be a lesson learnt for these lads.

Big Dunc’s post match interviews could have been written by Keats. Beautiful yet powerful use of language. Bet he gets the lasses weak at the knees in the local Wetherspoons on a Tues afternoon.

Get big Sam in. Crisis club. Danny Rowe is a huge miss.

FYLDE TAKE IT OUT ON MACCLESFIELD

Macclesfield result.webp

Three days later and a respone was issued. Fylde were back and proved they are not quite out. Danny Smith replaced Wright-Phillips on the right wing and put in one of his best performances for The Coasters. Henderson dribbled down the left wing beating three Macclesfield players cut in on his right foot and buried it into the top right corner to give Fylde the advantage. Mitchell-Lawson scored a low drive into the bottom right corner with Fylde backing off the winger, poor defending from Fylde and a poor time to concede. Fylde fought on and a few minutes later Henderson grabbed his second of the match, Danny Smith showed some excellent close control and put a ball in the box for Henderson to place through the keepers legs and restore Fylde's lead at the end of the half. Danny Smith got his well deserved goal just after the break, Hammond's first shot was saved by the keeper and it fell to O'Neill, a second shot stopped from the keeper but this time the ball falling to Smith, who took a touch and had a shot blocked, picked up the rebound and placed it into the net after Henry had already committed himself. The three points beginning to look like Fylde's. Danny Smith was on form tonight as he grabbed his second of the game, Richie Ginnelly had his header saved by Henry but it fell to Smith who placed it home to make it 4-1. Henderson almost grabbed a hat-trick but his shot drifted wide of the post on 83 minutes. A complete show of dominance from Fylde on this wet Tuesday night. Ginnelly sealed the win with a long range shot that flew through the keepers open hands, a very poor display from Macclesfield and a much needed win for Fylde.
