As much as I like Brands, I cant help but feel the summer window has failed Silva. We needed another midfielder, and a left footed right winger. Probably an experienced striker too. Not to mention the zaha deal left everyone feeling deflated.

Agreed. I have some sympathy with him. He clearly wanted more in the summer and he looked fuming last night. He's been left pretty much without a midfield now that Gbamin and Delph are out, Gomes might still be suffering with the ankle injury from the Palace game, Morgan is unreliable and then Davies

To be fair he's had us playing absolutely dirge football since the start of pre season. Really can't be arsed with all the ups and downs, how hard is it to find some continuity from the end of last season. It's like we never build on anything
Quite hard I think, because we’ve lost 2 players who were absolutely key to that run. Some of us tried to say that during the summer but got shouted down by the emperors new clothes brigade who insist everything is wonderful and it’s all a master plan. As I said would happen at the time, as soon as we have a bad result all those people suddenly get really angry because they were blind to what was clearly going to happen.

Yep we should have added to the team last season.
Gueye should have stayed unless we got a quality player who had the same traits and sorted out Zomua replacement early on.

It's part of out spine we have lost.

The problem is its much easier for the fanbase/media to turn on a dour "industrial" type football manager like Koeman/Alladyce than it is Martinez/Silva.

Mind you it's getting to the point where I just dont care anymore.

3 games in and its the usual everton - poor management, lacklustre performances and injuries mounting up.

Gets old real fast supporting this club at times.

Just saw he said lack of goals is concerning him, ok Mr Silva either change the striker or formation because clearly that seems to be our main weaknesses. We seem to be defending ok and we are producing a few chances, should be producing much more with the personal he had on the wings and midfield, but when the ball dies get to the current striker, that’s where the play ends, back to the other teams possession.

Even Leicester had the guts last season to peddle their midtable appontment in Puel and went for an ambitious enough appointment in Rodgers who for me will likely get 7th minimum this season.

Im confused as to where this club is heading.

How can you spend so much money & have grandeur plans for a new mega stadium but give the reigns to a novice manager who's record in the league is average to poor?

Just dont get it and the Echo never have once asked the question as they care too much about not upsetting the club / how shiny Bobby Firmino's teeth are.

What I do hope this dreadful start to the season shows is that pre-season does actually matter. We’ve got exactly the same problems now as we did during the friendly games.

Some posters are too quick to jump on anyone who expresses a genuine concern.

Exactly this. The warning signs were there and too many are quick to brush it off as a ‘just a friendly’. That performance last night was a disgrace. At no point in the 90 did I believe we would win the game against a team that will be relegation fodder.

Why we are consistently poor away from home no matter who the manager is greatly concerns me.

5 out of 19 wins last season
3 out of 19 wins in 17/18
4 in 16/17
5 in 15/16
5 in 14/15

....rinse and repeat.

Silva may have only been in charge for one of those seasons but he won’t improve the terrible record with performances like that last night

I get where you’re coming from mate but you obsess way too much about who other teams appoint, I mean Rodgers couldn’t deliver a league title to that lot even with a red hot Suarez banging goals in for them, he got a free and easy ride at Celtic, where despite him ditching them midway, they still walked home to a third straight treble

The Manc Echo will always put more shine on the cult because they are nothing more than a red top chip paper these days, going as far as publishing absolute nothing stories on their social media 24/7

He may not be the perfect manager but it comes to a point that we need to stick with one manager not continue shotgunning until Mr Right comes around, I know you’re a big advocate of Jose but I don’t think even he would be immune to the shotgun from some of our fans

I think the club has needed a Jose type manager for a long time mate. I dont rate Silva but the club has been mentally weak for a long time now - you just knew when we had the chance to go top last night we would crumble same as Fulham last season when we could have gone 7th.

Martinez - Mr Nice / not good enough
Koeman - more bothered about his putting
Alladyce - happy with 17th each season
Silva - Mr Nice / not good enough

Even if we couldn't attract a Jose (I think we could with the money we spend) I would want someone like Biesla - no nonsense workaholic who would shove a rocket up the arse of every player at this club.

He's had his settling in/ grace period, no excuses for him this season.

Does the same criteria apply to Brands as well because I think that it is unfair to single out Silva without acknowledging that he is not in control of transfers. For the money we have spent we should have a squad that is right in the mix for top 4. I think we are miles away.
