Bizarre. Really bizarre.

Bernard was excellent first 30 minutes, then faded. But he was streets ahead of the rest of the attacking unit in terms of performance today.
How was he streets ahead? He was in a great position in the box in the first half and rather than shoot or put the ball in the 6 yard box he passed it out of play. 2nd half he ran the ball out of play unnecessarily

Sigurdsson and Richarlison came closest to winning us the game. What did Bernard do?

What if he was directly involved in 30 goals this season but got no goals or assists - e.g. say he gives a beautiful reverse pass for Digne to put a cross in for Kean etc.

Digne gets the assist, Kean gets the goal, Bernard has, statistically, done nothing other than a successful pass.

Would that mean we'd still need to sign 'better'?

People are obsessed with pure statistical output. You need players like Bernard who knit things together and interchange with others around him.

The Digne reverse ball, yeah? Watch it back - he's on his wrong foot, all options in the box marked, so he tries a clever pass to unlock them and get the ball in behind for the pull back, assuming Digne had made the run he should have done.

If he had shot and hit the side of the net or ballooned it over, would that have made him 'have a better game' in your eyes? Why?

There's stats that take into account contributions to build up that aren't direct shots or assists. He's still not great. If in theory that happened I promise I'd be honest about it. But it isn't currently.

No, but if he'd had a shot and scored or crossed it and it went in then he would have had a better game in my eyes.

Pretty terrible answer really.
