There may well be things happening behind the scenes but there is no need other than Chelsea toying with us, for this to go to the wire.
The thing about having Plan B in place is that you end up stringing along that player, his club, and agent, in the same way that may now be happening to us. Said player may not be willing to drop all and sign on the dotted line at 5pm on deadline day, and probably has other options to consider.
I hope the club are actively and intentionally persuing another CB as we cannot afford to be left exposed in this area.

true, he hasn't worn 5 for France since U-17, my mistake. Perhaps then he is just saying he wants to be number 5, favourite number, symbolic of being first choice defender that he aspires to...I doubt he's playing mind games
