it's a big issue if 1) spending money on him leaves us without money to spend on someone else, and/or 2) if he signs for exorbitant wages and that prevents us from offloading him should he not perform. Previous regimes' recklessness in throwing around money has left us with a bunch of expensive failures that we can't get rid of.

It's not your money and you can't live by other people's failures.

Because it’s about value. if we can afford zaha then we have 80m to spend on a cb and a genuine number 9. They represent better value as they are positions we are desperate for players in.

Zaha at his age doesn’t represent value at 80m. He’s priced right there intentionally to make him bad value because palace don’t want rid of him. Also he would want exorbitant wages, and we have to be mindful of ffp.

That why we have a D F and a manager, I would think the the manager is involved so leave it up to them.

I think he’s a a good player and would certainly improve us. At £60m+ though? Not for me. It’s not my money but there must be better value out there. Lukaku will be going for that kind of money and at the same age he’s scored about 4x as many goals as Zaha.

On his day he can be excellent. But,
He’s inconsistent,
He cheats incessantly
He isn’t as technically proficient as I would like,
Has a reputation for being a disruptive influence in the dressing room,
His price is far too high, we can get far better value and have money to spare on other positions,
He wants to play for Arsenal and I feel would only arrive here slightly begrudgingly.
I would prefer we secured Malcom or Neres who I believe are better players .
So after careful consideration it’s a definite no from me.

What an awful signing this would be. Bolasie levels of shocking. On his day he is unplayable, happens about once every two months though and he is the type of player you have to base your entire set up around.

By far his worst attribute is his toys out the pram routine whenever he thinks he's been fouled. Only suceeds in transforming an atmosphere inside the ground against his team.

There are younger, better players out there with a far better attitude and less expensive wage demands. Players who would regard playing for us as a major opportunity rather than a disappointing side step.
It is the job of our recruitment team to identify and sign them , they have had long enough.
For me, signing this character would represent a failure in recruitment policy.
Luckily I don’t think we are after him, his wages would surely be far too expensive for a club attempting to to bring its wage bill under control.

Like all transfers especially strikers you take a chance and its at a high price , therefore it may backfire but :

R60m and Tosun going to Palace is a great deal IMO
He is undoubtably a talent we could do with upfront
If its not paper talk , and Silva wants him with Brands on board - then do it
strikers like Zaha don't come around often and our track record going into Europe to suit the P/L is not good
has bags of P/L experience , playing well against top P/L opposition
in this day and age most strikers have an attitude I believe Silva can manage this
Ok he may go down easily , but talented strikers are targeted , and way of countering being targeted

I agree. Especially when we have just got about 34 million from binning off the likes of Vlasic and Lookman. We would in effect be getting rid of their 'potential' and putting it towards a proven top quality Premier League player that is currently being chased by Arsenal, and who can hit the ground running right now.
