Koeman was a bad fit from the off sadly.

He just never fully bought into the club and the moment things went wrong he just folded.

He was a complete disaster.

To be fair to him he did ok in the first season, then the DoF decided to give him Rooney, Klaassen, Vlasic and Sigurdsson to replace Rom and we found out he wasn't a miracle worker.

The bad bit about Koeman was that he was happy letting others drive recruitment, instead of saying he'll quit if we don't stop buying central attacking midfielders.

We wouldn’t have got 8th but we would have definitely stayed up with unsworth. Or any other manger. We were never going down or have been in any serious trouble.
After West Ham did we beat Huddersfield at home? And move up to 9th

I know what happened mate, but I also recall how I felt at the time, I feared for us, I really did, we were utterly stinking and sinking.

Hindsight tells me I worried for nothing, but im honestly not somebody who gets concerned easily and I was VERY concerned.

That is spot on.

I remember the fear and it wasnt good.

Some Fans think we are going down every season after a bad run, even last season around early February I heard them all on the radio and on Twitter, panicking that we were in serious trouble.

Just looked at the line-up for his final game (5-2 hammering to Arsenal)

Pickford, Kenny, Keane, Williams, Jagielka, Baines, Sigurdsson, Gueye, Vlasic, Rooney, Calvert-Lewin

Zero pace in that defence... zero pace anywhere...

Im of the thinking that Brands turned us down due to Koeman.

Just my theory, based on only the fact they had worked together before.

Brands saying he was all for the Silva appointment too.

I initially thought that might just be PR, but they do appear to be pulling in the same direction with a clear plan.

All I know is that the club got it wrong, hired Sam as a stop gap (no idea why he was allowed 40m+ to spend), and now appears to be getting things right.

I dunno about Brands and Silva, im not convinced he was really down for, almost certain that was heavily pushed by Mosh, but he does fit the type of manager Brands might go for, maybe.

Regards the 47m he spent, well thats down to slaphead for not saying no.

Couldn’t even tell you what formation that is. Was it a 532? Just remember us scoring and thinking that we still had no chance of winning.

That was the entire season. Even when we won, we were still awful. Simply less crap than the teams we beat.

I mean, there’s still some decent players in that team. Keane is now solid, Gueye is a work horse and Siggy brings the blammos.
But there was no balance, no one complimented each other.

Siggy & Rooney in that midfield leaving all the work to Gueye.
Siggy having to drop deeper to accommodate Rooney, rendering him ineffective and Keane playing with 2 CB’s slower than even he is.

It’s no wonder we were adrift and the qualities our decent players had were negated.

Anyway, I’ll stop now. So refreshing after all that to have a transfer strategy with an actual overview of how each signing will fit into and compliment the squad.

Forza Brands
