Agreed mate. Sectarianism is a blight on our society but that is so far removed from the transfer chat it's unreal. So I've heard we are interested in Andre gomes and I'll no mention it again ...
Yeah it's definitely far removed my mistake for going off topic. Gomes looks like he will be coming back which is hard to argue with given how we ended the season. I'd like to see more in the final third from him next year.

Already released the wages, 10k a week apparently. Papers banging on about how much more then vvd and wanyama were on...fail to mention that they were there years ago and football has moved on from then.

As I have said, we are one of a limited amount of clubs scouting him. I'd be amazed if he doesn't go to one of the teams I've mentioned. Index me all you want. We are interested in this boy.

Add them 3 sides together and they still aren't as big as Celtic.
Historically and locally yes but the Old form really needs to go down the path of PSV/ Ajax or Benifica/Porto/sporting If they want success in the future the SPL and the old attitude to biggest fish in the pond needs to go

Some of the posts and the googling behind them is mind boggling

To be fair it's not the first time I've mentioned him but last night was the first time I had it confirmed we were all over him. Like several other clubs that I've mentioned.

I think the biggest takeaway is that different tactics require different types of players. A player that might be good for Silva in his desired 4-3-3, especially as one of the wider forwards, won't necessarily fit into a winger/outside mid role in a 4-4-2.

While we have Iceland, I personally cant see us moving away from 4231.

I suppose with the right players he could play as an 8 with 2 6s, but then thats basically 4231.

So its gonna be 4231 for the foreseeable. Cos I suspect Iceland will be here much longer than Marco.

Personally I've no issue with 4231, Siggys numbers are fine in that 10 role. I do think he'd suit a deeper role personally, esp as he gets older, take the game against Leicester, when he scored that blammo, for example, he played CM then didnt he? Wouldn't be opposed to Siggy, Gomes and Gueye as a proper 3 but like u say its probably gonna end up more or less a version of 4231 anyways. Don't see how getting someone like Doucoure in place of Gueye (for talks sake) would change that system much.

I actually think he will be here one more season, that’s siggurdsson I mean. And then brands will be trying to flog him to China or the USA.

I don’t think siggurdsson could play deeper, when he’s played high up the pitch all his career. You need to have an understanding of the midfield position.

Also to play 433, to play the midfield 3 you need a specialist number 6 which we don’t have, maybe signing this Sosa is a sign of how Brands & Silva see the team moving forward.

Does Siggy not play most of his career for Iceland in CM? Also he's decent at tackling and contributing defensively so surely he could slot in alright as an 8. In fact wouldn't having those abilities make him more suited to that role than a 10? Regarding the 6 role, if Gana's positional awareness was better he'd have all the attributes to play there but we don't know if he does or doesn't have the positional awareness as under Koeman Schneiderlin played that role and under Silva it seems like he's never been asked to play that role, he seems to operate more as an 8 at times (in terms of hassling the opponent, not being static, winning the ball and carrying it forward to create attacking opportunities) unless thats just his lack of discipline and awareness or something

Edit: Regarding Sosa, barely anyone in here has seen him play any games of note, me included, so unless you know something we don't I can't see him slotting in immediately as the specialist 6 you speak of... Not having a go but just think that its highly unlikely that this kid, who's barely played first team footie is gonna be a specialist 6 for EFC all of a sudden, yet Siggy hasn't a clue or understanding of how to play as a CM. Far more likely that Gana or Schneiderlin (to peoples dismay) will play that role if we chose that formation.

That's not entirely true, he played deeper with Iceland. Beyond that, why does everyone think he can't play deeper? He has a couple times with us when Morgan has been at the 6 and Gana at the 8. He has passing range. He has vision. He can score from deeper, that's for sure. He can defense, he's good positionally. I just don't think he's the problem.

You also don't have to have a true 6 as Silva explained when he got here. You DO have to have two defensive mids to play behind that deeper lying playmaker type. The issue to me isn't Sigurdsson, but the lack of two competent DMs that can not just play defensively, but move forward. Gana can at least move the ball forward as can Gomes, but Gomes can't cover half the field and force a quick counter.

But yes, I think he'd prefer to play with a 6. Schneiderlin just ain't it.
