Computer games.

Absolutely yes. None of this modern day open world racing.

Tracks. Cars. Crashes. That’s it. And medals for progression if you’re interested.

Posting this in both the movie and game thread as it's relevant to both...

The Sonic Movie???? Why? It's 2019, it's about 25 years too late. Sonic was never based in this world. Make something in a fnatasy realm with Tails and maybe Knuckles and it could have had a purpose. This just looks like a terrible cross between Tranformers and The Mario movie from the 90s.
I mean in the comics and in the Sonic X anime he's been on Earth and interacted with humans before and the movie trailer does suggest that he's not from Earth (he's from Mobius) so it does at least sound like they may stay true to his origins in that regard. How he ends up on Earth (and why he's there in the first place) would obviously be addressed in the movie itself.

That being said.. obviously the movie doesn't look great. I think in designing Sonic the way they have they've taken the Detective Pikachu approach in trying to achieve at least semi-realism but have probably gone too far. He just looks plain.. weird.. just too human like in a way. It looks like they're taking a lot of creative licence with Robotnik/Eggman though so there's a good chance that his origin story might be retconned. At the very least it seems people are generally interested to see what Jim Carrey does with the character.

Suppose the other thing is the overall Sonic 'lore' and the other characters. The impression I get from the trailer is that it's going to take some of the tropes of the first Sonic game (the rings/ring warps, 'badniks' etc.) and potentially just discard everything else and go completely 'Hollywood' on it. Either way I can't see it being much good unfortunately.

Wasted about 4 hours playing this last night, coming along very nicely. Approaching one of the big cities for the first time is a pretty memorable experience. Loving the Bladerunner vibes.
