Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

Fylde are on a run of good as of late, after keeping three clean sheets in the last three games. Boreham Wood were the unfortunate visitors to Mill Farm.

Fylde carried on their dominance with a very good performance against Boreham Wood. Wright-Phillips earned himself a start after playing well off the bench against York and capped an excellent display with a goal. Winger Ashley Hemmings replaced Stephen Dooley after sustaining a minor injury and scored two goals late on cutting in from the left side. A good win for Fylde but a poor performance from Boreham.

The goal of the game came from workhorse midfielder Andy Bond when Ashley Hemmings crossed in from deep and Bond got in front of his man and dinked the ball beautifully into the corner. The keeper looked bewildered as Bond ran towards The Coasters supporters slapping the badge on his chest. New signing Quentin Pereira was not part of the Hartlepool squad but will feel a tad embarrassed after leaving The Coasters on a day like that.

Bad news came in days after the Hartlepool game when club captain Ryan Croasdale pulled his hamstring with the injury due to keep him out of action for 5-6 weeks. It didn't get any easier for manager Duncan Ferguson after winger Wright-Phillips demanded more first team opportunities. Reports came from a reliable source at the club that the winger was ready to leave the club in search for regular first team football but Ferguson stuck with his guns and insisted Wright-Phillips will play a huge role at the club and there is competition for places. James Hardy has been in good form this season and does not deserve to be dislodged from selection.

Ferguson spoke to the local press and had this to say:
"There's no rift as far as I'm aware. We did have a chat as D wants more football and as you know he's been playing regularly this season. He's made 5 starts and about 9 appearances from the bench. I'm happy with his contribution, he's got 3 goals this season and I set him a target at the start of the season to aim to get about 5-6 and a few assists. He's impressed so far but he is a fiery character, he just needs to channel it better. He's 19 years old and has a big future in this game if he works hard and remains professional. He comes from a family of very successful footballers and I understand he wants to be in that mould. This is his chance to prove himself."

Fylde stretched their unbeaten run to 6 with an away victory over Chesterfield. Chesterfield took an early lead and Fylde were out of sorts throughout the first half. The players dug deep and Danny Rowe converted a free-kick into the top corner to equalise for The Coasters. The referee evened up the sides when Ryan East was sent off for a second bookable offence. His second sending off this season. Tom Brewitt scored from a corner late in the game with a neat finish into the bottom corner ensuring all three points are going back to Fylde.

A tough trip away to Notts County is the next fixture for Fylde having beat them at the beginning of the season, Fylde will be looking to make it two out of two and extend their unbeaten run to seven. The FA Trophy gets underway the following week with a home tie against Kings Lynn who are 16th in the National League North. Will Ferguson be looking to add silverware to his C.V. this season? Now into his third season in management he is yet to win a trophy. Some Fylde fans would rather Ferguson prioritised promotion over the cup competitions.

I think that the Wright-Phillips thing has been blown right out of proportion. He's a young lad who wants to play - if he wasn't like that, I'd be more worried. I can see him coming more in at the business end of the season and running at defenders who are getting a bit heavy legged after a long season down in the Vanarama - this ain't no PL bs on bowling greens - I think if he does that he'll have a field day.

Oh and stitch that Pereira, you turncoat monkey hanging b******.

DECEMBER 20 RESULTS.webp

After winning the previous six games, it ended in defeat away in Nottingham to Notts County. It was a tough game for Fylde to get control in but The Coasters put in a good performance and held the game at 2-2 before Enzio Boldewijn finished the game off in the 79th minute. The FA Trophy got off to a good start with Kyle McFarlane and Joe Cardle putting Fylde 2-0 up inside 6 minutes but it was not meant to be and a classic cup tie ensued against the team from the National North division when they pulled it back to 2-2 inside the first half. Fylde had no answer and trailed the game 3-2 in the 68th minute before Kings Lynn wrapped it up in the 93rd minute from the penalty spot.

It didn't get any easier and with 2 defeats on the bounce, Dover took full advantage when Mason Clark's deflected shot fell to James Hanson who curled it round Griffiths. Andy Bond salvaged a point when he cooly slotted a penalty in the 70th minute to claw back a point for Fylde. Duncan Ferguson had to make changes and it came against Grimbsy Town. Morgan Feeney replaced Tom brewitt in central defence and Ellis Simms led the line. Simms repaid the faith shown by his manager when he scored in the 4th minute. It was the only goal of the game but a good performance from Fylde saw them overcome an unconvincing Grimsby Town.

A trip to Prenton Park saw why MK Dons are keeping tabs on right winger James Hardy. He put in a fantastic display getting two assists and a goal with Andy Bond scoring from the penalty spot, Joe Cardle hitting a beautiful left footed effort from outside the box and Danny Philliskirk sealing the win on 85 minutes when he was through on goal with only the keper to beat, putting it sweetly into the corner. A good solid win for The Coasters.

Fylde couldn't break down the door at Harrogate, a wonderful counter attacking move and some nice one touch football found Max Haygarth inside the penalty area but he smacked the ball against the crossbar. It was certainly the chance of the game. Harrogate didn't really threaten and it will certainly feel like 2 points dropped for Fylde.

"I've got to sympathise with the lads" Ferguson stated. "We've seen teams do this to us in the past and it was just one of those days, we could still be out there playing now and it'll still be 0-0."

Fylde give themselves a 6 point cushion from 4th placed FC Halifax but remain 5 points from Bromley in 2nd. It's a different table to a year ago when Fylde were coasting but some fans are happy to be sitting in 3rd and letting the pressure affect the teams above.

Grimsby Town will be looking to bounce straight back into the football league but this is surely the season Fylde have to make this happen?

To be fair, I am becoming quietly confident, I think we've got a bit of backbone. If we have a bad result, we can dust ourselves off and get 3 points the next day. I'm starting to believe that Big Dunc can take us not just out of the Vanarama, but even much higher!

Come on you Coasters!

Eh!? Should be pissing this league. Looks like a playoff lottery again! Not good enough. I’ve been here since the beginning mate. If I have to read another report from Gateshead away next season I’m going to lose it. I want to dine at the king’s table mate

Patience. I have seen the promised land and next season we will be rolling with the big boys like Oldham, Notts Country and Bury. Keep the faith!

Manchester United
Manchester United youngster Tom Sang has joined National League side AFC Fylde until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old signed a new deal with United in May last year and has played for the under-23’s side.
Sang was called up to first-team training by Jose Mourinho before the Champions League match with Juventus in October 2018.

INCONSISTENCY SETS IN

James Hardy continued with his magnificent form getting a goal and an assist against fellow play-off chasers FC Halifax. Danny Rowe grabbed the other and also got the other 2 goals in the game at home to Gateshead.

It all went pear shaped away at Billericay when Ferguson decided to change his trusted 4-3-2-1 formation and opted for two strikers which seen Billericay grab all three second half goals in a performance that was non-existent from The Coasters. Ferguson acknowledged he was to blame for changing the system at half-time and deserved the criticism.

It didn't get much better away to Barrow in what was an evenly matched contest. Denver Hume and model professional Morgan Feeney were the stand-out performers and Feeney, who has shown incredible maturity this season kept his cool with a modest yet defiant display. A home tie to Sutton Utd did not see the return of winning ways and it was 3-0 to Sutton until Andy Bond launched one low into the bottom corner but it was not enough for a comeback. Fylde lacked discipline and looked complacent across the park.

Ferguson brought in Wright-Phillips and rested James Hardy as the youngster was keen to prove himself, he failed to do so against Welling and was substituted on 61 minutes. The chance of the game came when 88 minute sub Ellis Simms latched onto a route one ball, brought it down nicely but could only hit it directly at the keeper from close range.

It was a better showing from Fylde against Bromley who are chasing automatic promotion. The only goal came when Joe Cardle put it straight down the center from the penalty spot. Fylde put in a prominent display but could not double their lead. Bromley could not break down the defence and Fylde walked away with the points in a bit of a dry game. It is now up to Fylde to kick on from here as the season approaches the business end but it looks more likely to be play-offs than automatic promotion.
