Which is meaningless. What long term if you can’t even do the basic by beating crap at home now? It’s like Martinez saying we’ll get top 4 or something.

The top clubs have a financial advantage that ensures their position at the top. We're not a top club and the only way we will overachieve is a base built on a view of longterm success. We don't. Our position is much more tenuous. Instability is much more dangerous. Its only a few extra losses that sees you dragged into the bottom 5. This is why it's important we act if relegation looks to be a possibility, but too much instability and we will never have that base to achieve from. And there are plenty examples of what it can do to clubs our level, which is what we should be thinking of

I just think he's an intelligent person and was an intelligent player, and has been working as no2 with pep for some time so he's a risk worth taking in my eyes comparatively to that of a bottom of the table or flavour of the month manager like we've been going for

Good post mate. We're at that level of insecurity right now. It's a difficult and delicate situation.

Fair enough. If any ex/current Pep assistants are in contention I'd say we should go for the one at NYCFC - Dominic Torrent, but sure, in that context I'd be content with Arteta. It'd be a shame though, as - currently we're on a rough patch of managers it seems, and we can't catch a break. Tets coming in amidst this chaos won't do him any good and he defo won't leave on good terms with the club and the fans in 6 months or so.

I agree a new manager might not improve the playing side straight away but should that halt progression? The similarities between silva and martinez are shockingly similar and this was mooted before he was appointed.

The club must dig deep this time and get in a manager who
1. Ha's proven credentials
2. Has an identity
3. Has charisma
4. Is able to adapt (proof will show from previous roles if this is the case)
5. Has achieved a level sufficient in proper leagues not mickey mouse leagues

The above is only the minimum requirement, yes the appointment would cost a fortune but I'd rather that than buying another bunch of average players.

If you or others don't agree then that's fine, we all have our own thoughts but it should all come down to the basis of what you intend to accept as OK for Everton.

We can continue to plod on the way we have papering over cracks and ending up back to square one or we can decide to send in the demolition team and build a new structure from the bottom up led by brands initially.

This would take years to achieve but I would prefer this method than the current one. Otherwise we will spend another £100 + million and more than likely be back to this point at the same time next year.

The problems run much deeper than just the first team. The whole mentality has a rotten core and it needs sorting out starting this week and beyond.

We mock other teams -- like Watford -- who change managers like Italy changes governments. Gets them nowhere. Doing the same will get us nowhere. I've always felt it would take more than one season to get rid of the rancid crap Koeman, Walsh and Allardyce left us with. Silva needs at least another summer window to continue building the squad HE wants.
