Another point. I've lost count of wasted opportunities for a quick counter as Gana has failed to see the quick ball over the top, the opportunity has gone and then he still decides to make the pass which is now too late and passes it straight to the opposition. He's not the only one who does this either to be fair.

That is more down to poor movement in the team. Been an issue for years.

I'm sorry but you can quite clearly see that he passes in a below average manner every single game...its not an anomaly.

He will hit the rare high quality pass during a game which you take notice of because its uncommon...otherwise its usually short forward passes to Gomes or Sigurdsson to come deep or a sideways/backwards pass.

And those are exactly the types of passes Gana should make.

If he's the player trying to be our playmaker, it's a problem with how the team is playing, not the other way round.

Yes, the next step is having a player who can pick a pass more. That's fine. But the ones that bring half of what Gana does defensively won't be available right now.

I’ll keep banging the drum but we play in three sections. There’s no connection from defence to midfield to attack. It kills everything.

And you’re right, the movement sucks. They just stand and with every ball passed forward there is always a challenge coming in. Makes it such hard work.

Counter point: In games he's played our goal difference is +8. The two he didn't it was -6. And I recognize the obvious counter point to that which is of course we struggled the two games he didn't play they were City and Spurs. Well the other 4 "Big 6" games our goal difference was -4 with him playing. But also we only conceded 5 goals in those as opposed to the 9 in the two he didn't play. Also our attacking outputs against Arsenal, United and the RS were all decent we just didn't take chances.

The evidence shows we are better when Gana is in the side. Now how much of the dropoff is losing his ability vs the lack of ability of those replacing him? That's tougher to say but it's probably safer to find out by getting a different replacement in and having Gana to fall back on still than selling Gana and hoping he can be easily replaced.

3 games... He didn't play against Burnley and we won 5-1, so goal difference in those games was -2, not - 6. And Tottenham scored 6 goals from 8 shots.

Gana should be replaced with a younger version. But not in January. I’m happy if he can’t play more than a 5-10 yard pass. Because I don’t expect him to be playing long balls.

In my eyes his job is to win the ball and play an accurate first pass - to Gomes or sigurdsson preferably - and then they can find the runners.
1) we won’t get anywhere near the money on offer now in the summer, PSG are already rumoured to be close to getting De Jong.

2) if you can see that, then there is a good chance the opposition can see it to. Basically they mark Gomes & Siggurdsson tightly and give Gana the freedom of the midfield, knowing full well, he’s not going to hurt them.

To challenge at the top end of the premier league, I don’t think you can carry 2/3 technically poor players. And Gana is one of ours.

Unrealistic but the type of midfielder I’d like. Still think Ascacibar is the one.

I did watch a few YT vids and he just seems like a Schneiderlin type (probably better).

I really just think this midfield needs a big powerful player who can add more attacking prowess but offer some defensive solidity.

Ideally, that'd be with keeping Gana, binning off the rubbish. So our 3 CM options would be Gomes-Gana-new signing, and a combination (or all three) of them start.

It's fine to want an improvement on Gana, at least on the ball.

But it's just reckless to sell in the middle of the season and be so set on it. It would mean Silva completely ripping up his system and what's the point in doing that halfway through a campaign that's still in the balance in relative terms of what our objectives are (probably 7th and a good cup run - well, winning the thing).

Can you really see us winning the cup and let’s be honest it won’t be down to Gana if we do.
And is 7th such a big deal and who says we wouldn’t finish 7th with out him, I know one thing we won’t finish top 6 witt him this season. And Is silva really ripping up a system that I personally don’t think is his preferred system, like I’ve mentioned previously he wants a specialist number 6 which Gana isn’t.

I appreciate you think he’s a great, But surely you can see this as great dea for the club. Keeping him IF and it’s a big if a big offer comes in and worrying that we may finish 8th instead of 7th is short term thinking.

The particular occasions that spring to mind weren't actually down to poor movement more down to lack of vision by Gana.

If we are relying on Gueye for vision (and we are, or were) then we are in trouble.

The bloke is everywhere. He offers a passing option no matter where the ball is on the pitch, if more of our team did that we would be flying.

He throws in the odd bad pass (everyone does) but he never hides and is always willing.

Name a cm you think we can sign realistically in 14 days, is young and better than Gana.

This is PL time means business and money.

I don’t know and it’s not my job, I’m not a club scout or chairman or DOF. I don’t knows who’s available and who isn’t.

If we get good money I’m not bothered If we wait till the summer
But I would sell and play Beni for the rest of the season. And I’m. Not joking

Barrios is one that’s been linked, not seen him much apart from the World Cup, I know there will be people on here that will tell you they’ve watched him loads. Tim vickery who would have seen him more than any of us on here, rates him highly and by all accounts is more of a number 6 than gana and also is a leader on the pitch, according to Tim. He said Mori was very average and not good enough for the prem, he got that right so we will see

Also he’s 5yrs younger and we would make money on the 2 deals.

Don’t mind the barrios shouts but I can’t see him being a straight fit in the team.

Also. If PSG offer £30m+ for gana we should sell. 100% even in jan.. But I can’t see them offering that amount... more likely to be £15-20m in the summer
