It's not short term thinking. He's currently a crucial player to the way Silva wants to play. He may well be a crucial player going forward as well, for all we know (even though you know I agree that in an ideal world we'd have someone better on the ball coming in to complement Gana and Gomes).
No pace
I get that you don't rate him, but he clearly is one of our better players. That's why he plays 90 minutes literally every time he's able to, and has done under every manager he's played under. It's also why he's pretty much the only player in our squad who is - supposedly - in demand from an elite level club. You're obviously perfectly entitled to think we'd be better without him, or that the prices quoted make it a good deal, but suggesting that he's not one of our best players kind of ruins the credibility of what you're saying in my opinion.

I mostly agree and ideally would like to sell other cap before Gana. Although I would ask why can't a DM have vision? Barry used to do some great forward passes and created chances and goals.

The player is irrelevant to me. Are we replacing him and what he brings to the team for 30M? Maybe, maybe not, you may get lucky and get a player for less or you may even pay more and the player ends up not as good.
Personally I would stick with something that we know works. If Silva wants to sell as he thinks he doesn't fit in with his style of play then that's another thing but selling him purely on his age (which isn't even that old) isn't something I would look at doing. I think he is our best/most important player though so...

Gueye creates chances and goals though. It is an utter myth that he doesn't. I would say he plays a part in most of our goals because again, he is involved all over the pitch. He easily sees more of the ball than anybody else so his poor passes are maybe a bit more noticeable (The more passes you make the higher the loose pass chances) For some reason we seem to have have been indoctrinated into thinking that he is just a tackler who does nothing else, McCarthy was similar when he was playing well actually.
Just because a player is not playing the final ball for the assist does not mean they are not playing a part in the goals we score. He is a massive part of everything we do.
