Oh mate. Me of all people am not giving him a free pass. I never wanted him in the first place.

Despite my massive concerns about him you have to remain sensible and give him a chance.
Oh barring being brought down the table he gets a flyer for this season. But I hate the idea of "he needs his players in". It's a poor excuse imo. A manager's job is to work with what he has.

The fact that he has less points on the table(24) than Sam Allardyce had(25) after 17 games(almost half a season) is a grim reality and shows we have not progressed much at all, in fact it could easily be argued (not by me of course)at this point we've gone backwards under him with a better squad.

Seriously?

So if Utd signed our best player off us for £50 million (and our manager) they would be happy being around us in the table? As we are level with Watford despite spending massively more money than them.

Wolves are a newly promoted side.

Bournemouth have about 3 good players and none of them would be welcomed by our fans if we signed them.

West Ham - fair enough they appointed a top manager who has actually won stuff and they spent a fair bit in the summer

Leicester - again about 3 good players but we should be miles ahead after they lost Mahrez

Im actually annoyed at how fans expectations are this low.

Obviously we are not good enough to be in and amongst the top 6 at present - however we should be clear in 7th by a fair few points and beating those sides below us much more than what we currently are doing.

But football doesn´t work like that. We are in a position where we have to go Silva time to build something. I´ve seen an improvement in the style of football and whilst the results have been a mixed bag it´s just what I´d expect from a new manager with a host of new players.

By the end of the season I think we will be above all of those teams you have mentioned. You can call the expectations low, they´re just realistic for where we are now.

Silva gets top marks for style of football.

However the results have been poor. Drawing with watford and utter filth like Newcastle is bad, real bad. Losing to west ham was embarassing.

I’m prepared to give him time to plug the obvious gaps at centre forward, and right back.

The fanbase needs to be patient or we will be quite rightly judged as a petulant and deluded set of fans.

We haven't got the results we'd have liked recently but it's obvious things are far more positive this season than last. Koeman set us back considerably with that horrific transfer window and poor management last summer, and then meant we had to embarrassingly resort to bringing in Big Sam to get us out of the mess we were in.

It was never going to be an instant fix, and that is showing right now. However, we have a much better squad than last season, have most of the tough fixtures away from home out of the way now, and are still within 2 points of 6th place. To be in with a chance of 6th at this stage is positive and if we can put things right in January with 1 or 2 additions then we can still have a good season.

I know we all want instant results but come on. He hasn't even been here half a season yet and it hasn't been that bad. If we were languishing above the relegation zone I would understand but we are around a bunch of teams I'd expect us to be at this point.
Well for people saying he has to have 3 windows so that it's his team, aren't living in real world.

That potentially a 300m overhaul.

There's noway every new manager coming in will be getting 3-4 windows and unlimited cash.

Top coaches improve the players already here..

I'm not seeing much improvement. Not in player or team performance.

Yes we can look OK for 20 mins here and there but that won't win you many premier league matches.

It's all about the points however you get them.

Have you actually watched the football we have played? It is so far ahead of anything Allardyce served up for us. We´ve got a new manager who is trying to develop a team and is going through a tough patch right now. I can´t believe people thought this season would be plain sailing.

I think we look so much better than we did with Allardyce in charge it´s unrecognisable. I don´t dread watching Everton anymore so that´s an improvement in itself.

The points are important but so is the approach. There is no point in us playing a brand of football where we sit back for 90 minutes and nick one on the break. It´s not going to get us anywhere in the long run.

Think we've got to be patient as a fanbase, anyone who is just looking at the results is being too narrow minded. I know, in a transition season we should still be beating the teams we've drawn with, but that is the case every season, the club's mentality isn't one of winners yet, but it has slowly improved over the season. Our performances away at all the top 6 have been a lot of hope and just haven't been mirrored with the results. I mean if you were narrow minded you'd say, we've only scored one goal from open play in all those games. But that's not silva's fault is it? Yesterday was our poorest performance against one of the top 6, but we still could have had four goals, these weren't half chances we missed, they were 3 sitters from inside the box. Compare that to city, how many chances did they actually miss? Just the mahrez one where pickford saved you'd say as a really good chance they missed, and they nearly got an own goal.

Silva's set up is working, we're just not converting, pretty much every game we're creating enough to score 3 goals, but it's all to that lack of a top striker.
Compare our three and the prices we've paid, Tosun £22m, Niasse £13m and Calvert-Lewin £1m. £36m in total for three strikers, compare that to the rest of the top 6 and you'd be silly if you think straight away we should be higher than 7th. I set that as an ambition, but all of the top 6 have 3 or 4 attackers who have cost or are worth over £40m, with some worth double and treble those amounts. And we've been on par with all of them, but the price difference has shown. In previous years we've got better results there, but we've never matched these teams, we've gone there and defended for 90 minutes and relied on a bit of luck just to get a draw.

We'll pull away from the teams around us and they're not really that comparable because of our stature. Teams like newcastle come to us and set up with 11 men behind the ball and come for a point, teams like wolves are obviously going to find it easier because teams go there to have a go and actually try and win. If they have a few good seasons, teams will go there to shut up shop and they'll see how much harder it then is.
Sense.

There's a happy medium that needs finding.

I'm not sure Marco is looking to find it tho that's the worry.

We will know exactly where are season is heading in next 5 weeks.

We are heading in to unchartered territory now regards silva.. A second half of a premier league season.

100% this

Plus it was only a year ago 5 of our under 21s won a world Cup.

Plenty of talent already here for him to work with and improve

If I am honest with you, I would have that Callum Wilson off them.

So would Chelsea, apparently.

Disagree it's all about points however you get them. We should have kept Allardyce then he would have got us points but in a way that will see the Club not go forward or backward but just sit middling. That is not what anyone wants. A good style of footy is the first step then get the players to suit and you see progression. Silva had to redesign this team and we see better footy but not the better points tally. We can see we are closer to being a decent team again that is not relying on turgid get a point football regardless. A plan is in place to play progressive footy that is in its very early stages and this is to be built on gradually. Hopefully gone are the days of anti-football just to try and gain a point. Martinez was close to it but his unchanging stubbornness cost him. He didn't recognise problems and change them he just stuck to his game plan with fingers crossed. If Silva can show the recognition of the problems and change them then we have a better chance.........but he needs to have a few windows to show he is up to it.

Certain styles need certain types of players. He hasn't had a chance to get all of them yet and the players are still adapting to them but it is obvious for all to see we are a better team footballing wise. Let us judge more accurately next season when he will have less excuses and will have what is closer to a team that can play his style.
