I was made up when we signed him. There were glimpses when he played at centreback that he could command a game and mop up any danger. However, during the World Cup and in the Carling Cup we've seen that he can be quite laxadaisical. When he's been employed in the holding position we've seen a similar lack of discipline and concentration. He wants to get forward for personal reasons rather than for the good of the team. It was the same with the penalty that he missed against Huddersfield.

His performances have been below par so far this season and he's been rightly dropped.

If Bayern or Wolfsburg want to pay top dollar, then I'd be interested in hearing what they had to say. It would have to be well in excess of £10m though. We signed him for £6.2m, so we'd be looking at a minimum of £3.8m profit on the player in 12 months.

At the moment he can't get in the side. We have no funds to invest in the playing squad and few other assets to sell. If we could get a premium price for him, I'd be happy to sell. Otherwise, I'd be happy for him to stay.

Given that he's approaching 27, I would imagine that Everton is a stepping stone for him and that he'll be angling for Champions League football within a year or two anyway.

More of a worry to me is why are there quite a few players unhappy and wanting to move away like yobo, yakubu, pienaar and heitinga.

You could easily say there's limited opportunities for some, better money/Cl for others, but I wonder if the "Stick around...We're on the cusp of something big!" wears thin after a while, especially after so many years & compounded by one of our worst starts with one of our best squads.

I've been underwhelmed by him, tbh. He shits out of tackles and waves his arms about a lot. Are we supposed to be impressed he held his place in one of the ropiest Dutch WC teams of all time?

Hes a nuclear snide, even that stuff during the summer with City.

I dont think hes as good as he and others think he is, id 8-12mill - not that i think Bayern would pay it.

If Dustbin's worth £5m and Lescott's worth £22m, then a 26 year old centreback for the World Cup finalists must be worth over £10m easily.

Bayern haven't bought anyone for a couple of years, so they must have Champions League money burning a hole in their arse pocket.

Bayern are home to the other dutch thug, Van Bommell. They really would be a team of bruisers.

I don't think that Johnny has earned his cult status at the club. If he deputises at centreback in the derby and plays a blinder, I might change my mind! lol
