Why do you think we can win mate?

Not even being funny. Just curious as I can’t.

Well, happen I’m just a glass half full type of fellow.

And I sure as heck ain’t looking forward to this game with any kind of trepidation.

Substantial reasons?

Well, the confidence that comes from two clean sheets in a row, a team which attacks with vigour and a midfield which is, at last, balanced.

Wild card option to come off the bench in Lookman.

We have really improved in the away games at the “top six” this season.......wayward finishing and bad refereeing did for us at Arsenal where we played well for most of the game.....we were totally robbed by the ref at Old Trafford.....and we got a very creditable scoreless draw at Chelsea......I think we shipped a total of ten goals or so in the corresponding three fixtures last season.

The improvement is there for all to see.......it is just a matter of believing what you see.

Add to that they have not been particularly impressive in recent home league games against Fulham and Cardiff and their results overall this season have been way better than their performances in general.

And if I was a straw clutcher I would point to the “law of averages” which dictates we must win there soon :(

So you might well be right and despite our recent good form we have no chance of winning.....but I for one am not writing this game off, nor am I dreading it.

In fact, I am very much looking forward to it

I'm a glass half full person in most things but not this.

Everything you've said there is true and nice. The one thing you forget to mention is that Liverpool are a very good team. Which is horrible to say, but it's true. And they are streets ahead of us. Like Arsenal were, and Chelsea, where as decent as we were, we still didn't win.

We will go there with a more positive approach for sure. And that's lovely. I just can't see how we can win.

If we somehow skank it and do win though, i'm getting so smashed Sunday night.

Iggy.....just believe.

Enjoy your weekend without fear.

We will not lose, pal :pint2:

The thing is we dropped big points at the start of the season whilst getting to grips with Silva's methods.

Wolves D
Bournemouth D
Huddersfield D
West Ham L

You would expect us to turn atleast 2 of those results in to wins if we played those sides now which would have us in around 5th and only 6-7 behind them.

I think we are closer in quality than they would like to admit.

Stick Mane or Salah up front for us with Rico out wide and we are evens.

That's the challenge for Brands in Janaury, forget midfield if funds are tight spend every penny on a quality CF.

The difference of two World Class forwards is a large one. We're talking two of the very best players in the Premier League.

Also, even if we took your hypothetical scenario as being a reasonable assessment, being 6-7 points behind them after 13 matches still equals 15 to 20 points over the course of a season.

Liverpool will finish at about 20 points ahead of this season I think because I do agree that we're a better side now than in the first month, so the gap will increase slower.

Since the premier league began mate, they have spent nearly double what we have spent, so they are expected to beat us and finish above us, like if I had a Ferrari and they had a fiesta, for instance,99 out of a 100 times id win, but that one time they would. The old cliche of form goes out the window due to it being a derby hasn't really happened for years and our record in them has been a disgrace, the pressure is all on them as I've said no one expects us to win but records are there to be broken;)

Oh mate. They're undefeated on 33 points after only 13 games, scoring 26 and conceding only 5. We are already 11 points behind them.

Trying to do individual player comparisons is silly. Put it all together and they are a better side than us by a long way.

Doesn't mean that we can't get a good result of course. We have a good side and we have a decent enough chance. We will need some luck on the day as well.

No they are not.

We have hardly put our strongest side out this season. We are improving all the time.
