We have 2 years (perhaps 3 years) with this side....

I have always said the Moyes side with Arteta, Cahill, Yak, Fellaini, Pienaar, Saha, Baines etc produced the best football we've seen for many years at Goodison. I believe if we beat Fiorentina in the shoot out we could have got to that final, and had a damn good chance of winning the whole thing.

Since then we had a nice spell with Roberto. Lukaku scoring goals for fun. Barkley, Geri and Stones made up a talented x11 and we played some great football but defensively we struggled.

If you look at the side now, in the short time that Silva has been here and it has the makings of a very, very good squad once they are all fit and accustomed to the league.

Pickford
Coleman (aged 30) Mina/Zouma Keane Digne
Gueye (29) Gomes
Walcott (29) Sigurdsson (29) Bernard
Richarlison

My fear is that we have seen great players with great ability struggle as they get past 32/33 (Rooney, Baines, Williams, Cahill etc).

If (when) Walcott loses his pace he is quite limited and won't offer much on flank, we do have the likes of Lookman/Richarlison to fill that void though. Similar with Sigurdsson, he has such a great engine but in 3 years time, I'm not sure he will cover the ground he does now.

I'm not calling this the golden generation, but I feel like if we keep this side together for the next 2/3 years we may see some great football. But it needs to happen soon....

I have mentioned this a few times, we need to seize the day , 6 quality signings over the next 2-3 windows will have us very strong in terms of 1st 11 and backup

ST x 2 dzeko and Werner type
RW Lozano type making Theo backup
CM x 2 gomes might be one depending how he goes
RB someone like the palace lad making Coleman back up
CB zouma maybe? Assuming Mina is good

There is no reason we can’t sign 6 players in that time frame. We should sign them whenever they become available but ideally a striker should be priority

If you just add in Pickford to the Silva signings;

Pickford
??? -- Mina -- ??? -- Digne
???
??? -- ???
??? -- Richarlison -- Bernard
Anyone not signed last summer has their place under threat.

Lets say we signed Gomes and Zouma permanently at the end of the season, we would look like this;

Pickford
??? -- Mina -- Zouma Digne
???
Gomes -- ???
??? -- Richarlison -- Bernard
What can we learn from this? Well, the non-signed players would be;

Coleman
Gana
Sigurdsson
Walcott

All of whom (as you stated) are 29/30.

If we were looking to sign Zouma/Gomes at season end then its highly unlikely we would be making additions in those positions during January.

Therefore, i believe that any new signings will be in either the RB / DM / CM / RF positions during Jan.

If we stick to the u25 model then this would mean we are building a team for the long term not only the next 2-3 seasons.

If I remember correctly Fiorentina went on to play PSV Eindhoven who were absolutely brilliant at the time and we also had a massive injury list so I doubt we would of got past them let alone get to the final.
I could be wrong, but have a feeling rangers knocked them out, who lost in the final to Zenit. Who we had beat in the groups.

I'd literally never heard of Wan Bissaka before yesterday, now apparently he's better than Coleman and we should be signing him

Me either, but he put in a top shift, a six footer with pace to burn. I think people are more saying he’d be a good Coleman replacement, and I can see why on that evidence.
