Bernard and Lookman have, by the sounds of it, been our brightest players. Tosun is our best striker.

It really is the changes. There are far too many.

Pickford should be starting.

Gana, our best midfielder, should be starting.

Richarlison should be starting. Arguably Walcott should be starting (our other most threatening player.)

If we get through this, Silva has gotten away with it. It's an unnecessary risk when we have no Europe, don't have another match for 5 days and Liverpool and Man U have already been knocked out.

I'm trying really hard to be arsed about it but it is still the League Cup and winning it would be cool but ultimately feel like a consolation prize for not being able to compete for the League and the FA Cup. If we want to be a real top level club than we need to develop the ability to send out a changed side and get through. Arsenal almost made the Europa Final without playing a strong team until the quarters.

I'd argue we need to win this cup before we can dream of competing for the bigger stuff.

Small steps and all that.

The fact the bigger teams don't rate this until the late stages should spur us on to take this more seriously and take advantage of them going out. They can afford to not be bothered. We really can't.

I'm personally heartily sick of us not going full strength in this competition.

Davies doesn't track Ings either. Kenny lets Redmond square him up.

Schneiderlin by far the closest to him, the other two have youth as an excuse Morgan no such luck

It's simply not being clinical enough and a huge lapse in concentration at the back. Pretty much what we've seen all season.

A weakened side is a luxury we can't afford though. Not as if we're in Europe and the squad isn't riddled with internationals either. There is no need to make wholesale changes. This is one of two opportunities to potentially keep the season alive into and after Christmas and we are letting it slip again. Our cup record is becoming as bad as our away form.
