The lads absolute pony. Headless chicken, can't pass and can't shoot. Gives needless fouls away time and again. Our midfield was desperate and got absolutely dominated by them yesterday.

He clearly wasn't fit yesterday and kept trying to win the ball when there was no need. He had a shocker.

We know he can be very good at that defensive job though. Just let him do it, and have a player alongside him to do the rest.

We all know that. I think due to a lack of options he was used as the box-to-box player yesterday.

But he can't be used there, he's crap.

He has to be played as the screener in front of the defence or not at all.
That should be his only job - effectively the first wall between the attacker and our back four, hassling and being a nuisance like we know he can be. He then needs someone to take over the ball once he has it and the issue with Schneiderlin is that he just isn't creative (or clever) enough when it comes to turning the play around.

As it stands it's like he's effectively trying to do two jobs and it's, ultimately, to his detriment. He just isn't that flexible of a player all said and done.

I was hoping this season that we'd play him as the sole defensive midfielder but yesterday looked like a horrible foreshadowing as to what would happen if we did that. They were running off him for fun yesterday, and not just their dangerous attackers but the absolute louts they had in midfield as well.

Giving him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he was unfit given he did have an injury on international duty but that was a disinterested, garbage performance from him yesterday.

Clearly not 100% fit yesterday - our one man midfield - Bernard look like a midfielder not a winger..........
need to slot him in with him tbh snide has two speeds - sidewards, and backwards.........

No matter the role, any midfielder should be able to shoot, come on now.

Why should they?

He is particularly bad at it, so i'd agree he should be better but he is not in the team to get us goals. Or to play 40 yard cross field passes. Or to go go on a 20 yard driving run.

He is a very effective player when he has the right players around him. He should be the main defensive midfielder in this team, selected solely to frustrate opposition players, provide protection to our defence, provide energy and to play simple 5/10/15 yard balls to better technical players who possess far more ability on the ball than him. The likes of Richarlison, Bernard, Walcott, Sigurdsson, Digne, Coleman and Tosun.

Since Barkley and Lukaku left, the onus has been more on him to produce attacking intent and it just isn't in his game. In fact he's poor at providing attacking contributions so the players we brought in to actually provide that should step up and actually contribute in that way.

He can shoot though, he has scored a handful of goals for us, some nice ones too. It's not a strength of his or anything but it's not like he is totally hopeless either.

With all our attacking options if we are looking at him to provide goals then something is wrong.
