Unless we have a disaster of a season (and by that, I mean bottom 5), Silva needs to be given a couple of seasons at least. We will never get anywhere by chopping and changing managers every 5 minutes. He's implementing a new style here - it's a style which has more risk associated with it, but equally it's a style that is more likely to bear fruit in the longer term than a Koeman/Allardyce style. Very few top sides play with the pragmatism that those two displayed.

It's going to take time and players will take time to adapt (if they prove able to do so), new players like Bernard, Mina and Gomes are either half-fit or not fit at all yet. Yesterday was really frustrating, but I've promised myself that I'm not going to have a moan at all this season - that can be difficult in the heat of the moment, but I'm going to try.

It goes beyond the players available. This fella can’t organise a defence.

If a manager is naive when organising a defence we know how this will end.

We concede 9 goals in 5 matches against Wolves, Southampton, Bournemouth, Huddersfield and the mighty West Ham. No clean sheet. Zero. Not against any of the money teams too. We play Arsenal away next imagine if we continue such tactics with full back bombing forward leaving massive gap in the wing position and the space between the CB and CM. Arsenal will love the space for their counter.

Mate you said you will not moan but what if we continue to ship out goals for fun and continue to drop points against the lesser teams at home? To achieve a better league position we need the manager to get up to speed now even we have a few key signings missing. This is part of the game. He can’t do worse than fat Sam with the squad.

Pickford

Coleman - Zouma - Mina - Digne

Gana - Gomes

Sigurdsson
Walcott
-------------------- Bernard
Richarlison

Given everyone is fit & available, should we imagine that this would be close to being his preferred XI this season? It looks good on paper, but it concerns me that persisting with the high defensive line will still leak goals on a consistent basis..

You can't have it both ways mate. We either play a more attacking brand of football or we stay as a pragmatic side. Everyone seems to want the former and I'm in the same boat, but it means taking more risks and there's a learning curve there. Same happened under Martinez. It will take time. Pointless moaning about it in the short term.

A big if. If we play a more attacking brand of football but we end up in 11th it’s meaningless. We must get results to chase the Sky teams. We have zero clean sheet so far that’s a massive concern.

Unless you have the best defenders in the world you'll always leak goals with an attacking style of play

Even Brazil used to concede for fun in the 70's, they just scored more than they conceded

Barcelona got away with it because they had guys like Puyol in their prime who were great defenders, so they could survive the high line

Looks tasty, that.

It takes time to put together a side that can marry attacking flair with defensive solidity, this isn’t a 5 minute job.

There’ll be more games like yesterday along the way. But as disappointing as yesterday was, if Tosun had been on form he’d have the match ball today, and Niasse nearly broke the bar when he should have burst the net. They scored wilth all 3 of the decent chances they created....

I can see this guy getting it right at Goodison, I like him already and I’m prepared to give him plenty of time to get the balance right.

We have so many mediocre to outright garbage players that it's frightening. No manager is going to turn this steaming pile of horse dung side into a good team in such a short space of time and it's delusional to think he would. This is now the fifth year in a row we have been trash, why is anyone surprised?

I'm not Marco Silva's biggest fan but let's get this right. He's not the reason we are so goddam poor, anyone blaming the manager at this stage is an idiot. If you can't see that our problems go way beyond him after all this time then you deserve the mediocrity they we get served up every week.

We WILL improve soon and do what we always do, finish upper mid-table without ever being a serious threat to anyone above us. I've no doubt that our schizophrenic like fanbase will continue to turn on both the manager and players when things are bad and demand sweeping changes, only to do a complete 180 and sing their praises as though everything is perfect after one good result. It would almost be funny if it wasn't so painfully predictable.......

Sorry but the space west ham had in the middle of the park was ridiculous. The pass out to their lb and then the one touch pass into cm was always on.

He really needs to stop the team from leaking goals. I don’t know if this is down to his tactics or the lack of quality in the squad. It’s not like we were playing Man City and Chelsea.

I said I will give him 10 games before I criticise him unless things were going badly wrong. I am still therefore in the supporting capacity. It's a big job with lots to do. Some weaknesses in the playing personnel, and a new system with a host of new players coming in is not going to be an easy thing to overcome. He hasn't over achieved yet, but apart from zonal defending which I'm not too much of a fan of with the players he inherited, then I am reasonably happy as I can see some progress in the team and the way they're playing - even after a 3-1 loss (I only saw the second half).

I know that's criticism but I hope it's fairly supportive. Once Mina comes in, I hope that zonal defending will make more sense with the players we have.

So far I am happier with Silva than the last few managers.
