No. But you have to factor in they played with good partners who each got through a lot of work. And Reid/Bracewell and Ebbrell/Parkinson played at a time when you didn't have to be too fussy how you went in and challeneged opponents.
He's a far better player than Ebbrell ever was.
The problem is he's never fit .

Here we go again!!!!!

The annual "player with long term injury" can't come back quick enough because we really need him!

I remember everyone doing it with Bolasie despite him being poor before his injury

Funes mori shouts last season to come back in after being out for a yar

Critisism of Coleman now despite everyone desperate for him to be back when Kenny was filling in.

Its almost as if people expect long term injured players to come back better

Cobber, I see your comparison and it makes somewhat sense, but don't think people are necessarily saying he would come in and improve the team, unlike people were saying with Bolasie and Mori.

The issue with Mccarthy as opposed to the other two examples, is that most people agree we actually need to get rid of him, and for his benefit as well.

The truth is and the general consensus is that when Mccarthy got a run of games, we played better football. As a defensive midfielder he tackles, is fair dinkum on the ball whereas he doesn't butcher the pill unlike Gueye and actually brings energy and shows interest unlike Schneiderlin.

He is not good enough, get him fit then get him sold.

You’re rarely right when it comes to judging a player. He is tough without being effective. Gana interception and ball winning stats is well known and one of the best in the league, his anticipation is much better than McCarthy any day.

McCarthy passing is terrible, short and meaningless. If you expect him to recycle and launch a counter attack, you will be disappointed. His passing philosophy is identical to Schneiderlin and I don’t see us recycling the ball to good use with both or either of them around the first team.
That's just nonsense. Go and compare McCarthy's stats in his first season here with either of those two clowns.
You are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts. Stop making up stuff.

The lowest # of tackles per game Gana has ever had was 3.5 and he's been over 4 every other PL season. McCarthy's highest ever in the PL was 2.7.

In terms of interceptions per game, the lowest Gana ever had in the PL was 1.9 and he's had much higher than that with us and with Villa (where he had an insanely high number). McCarthy has never been higher than 1.8, which wouldn't have beaten Gana's worst season.

He has NEVER been anywhere near the player Gana is and was. It's not even close, not statistically, not in reality.

I'd probably still take him over Schneiderlin, but neither are particularly good, especially not anymore.
lollollol

WTF do those stats tell you? Not much. You can deal with and snuff out danger by staying on your feet and shifting it into a non threatening position. That, in fact, was McCarthy's game rather than lunging in. He had a good positional sense in terms of when danger would arise and then where it should be escorted out to to deal with that danger.

Playing without the ball is as important as playing with it.
Whoa. YOU said the stats were better with McCarthy. I don't give a flip about the stats, you brought them up and you were wrong. Your opinions are fine, debatable, but fine.
But you're being selective and you KNOW it. The two areas you point in Gueye's favour can be countered by McCarthy having a better record on 'clearances' and '50/50 balls won" and "blocked shots".

So you see, for my money when you add in positional sense and being able to front up danger and neutralise it by staying upright and shepherding danger away (non-statistical and more subjective) then McCarthy for me is the clearly better player. That is the deciding factor.
You responded to a post about interceptions and ball winning stats. I was simply citing those stats to show you that you were mistaken because you were. I’m not being selective, I couldn’t give a flip about any of these stats. You made the post. I have no problem if you think McCarthy is or was a better player, but your post was inaccurate.
Technical knock out, the ref steps into avoid any more damage to Davek lol lol lol
