James McCarthy

You are wrong mate, technically he’s not better than Schneiderlin, the only common ability they both share is passing timidly with no real purpose.

Physically he might match Gana but his ball winning ability is not as good.

He’s far from the next level we’re trying to achieve.
No. I'm right. He anticipates danger earlier than any DM we have. That's key for that role. He is very tough as a competitor and also recycles the ball efficiently.

Gueye and Scheiderlin are not at the races in the first aspect and dont match McCarthy for the other two attributes.

Before he was injured McCarthy in that first 18 months for Everton was as good a DM as I've seen in a blue shirt.

I genuinely don't know the answer but has he scored more Snides etc, what about number of fwd passes etc, somebody must be able to do a 'stat-off' for him v other CMs

Can we be clear, I like Jimmy mac but he is not the answer, he is more similar to Gana (but not as good). We need a ball playing DM not another DM who puts himself about and breaks up play.

You’re rarely right when it comes to judging a player. He is tough without being effective. Gana interception and ball winning stats is well known and one of the best in the league, his anticipation is much better than McCarthy any day.

McCarthy passing is terrible, short and meaningless. If you expect him to recycle and launch a counter attack, you will be disappointed. His passing philosophy is identical to Schneiderlin and I don’t see us recycling the ball to good use with both or either of them around the first team.

That's just nonsense. Go and compare McCarthy's stats in his first season here with either of those two clowns.

When we sign Gana his ball winning and interception stats is just behind kante. You are living in a “Martinez signing must be good” world if you think McCarthy achieve better stats than Gana.

Oh my for once Dave I totally agree with you

..sadly he became almost ineffective once the curse of the hamstrings kicked in. When fit his performances dipped and i’m sure he wasn’t playing flat out. Perhaps subconsciously he was protecting the injury. Then he let the handbrake off and played really well (against Arsenal I think), then again for one half of the Derby at Goodison before the hamstring popped again.

The broken leg was very sad but it’s not hindsight when I say he should’ve been sold when his stock was high and the injuries started to happen.

Freak leg break aside, I think he's just someone who has been ran into the ground from an early age, making injuries an inevitability for as long he keeps trying to push his body the way that used to be able to. It was the same with Michael Owen.

There isn't much evidence to suggest that he has the quality to reinvent himself as a ball-playing midfielder, so I'd expect him to have to go the Scott Parker route and drop down a level if he wants to keep playing.

You dont have a clue about football if you think that way.

Did you see McCarthy in his first and second seasons here before he was badly injured? Quite obvioulsy you didn't.

To be honestly mate IF you think Martinez is a good manager you don’t have a clue about football. The same 2013/2014 one season again and again about Bobby and his mate. McCarthy did not turn up for like 3/4 years and he is so injury proned. He is average and like those you dislike he can only pass sideways.

You've done that on purpose haven't you lol
