Because the interpretation of the law used to be: if you win the ball then catch the player on follow-through it's not a foul, never mind a yellow or a red, unless you show serious intent to harm the opponent.

Now the logical conclusion of today's interpretation is that ANY slide tackle that catches the opponent is necessarily a red card, whether you win the ball or not, and whether you meant to harm the opponent or not.

That's why.

Ref has also said it was a red for stopping a goalscoring opportunity. Nothing to do with being reckless which the other biff in the studio says.

I wasn't convinced at first, I actually thought jags got the ball mate, after watching it a few times in slow motion IMO Jags doesn't get the ball, at the end of the day it's an uncontrollable lunge after losing control of the ball, and he goes right through on the lads ankle, if it was against us I would be screaming for a red after seeing it over a few times more.
