Transfer Rumour Marcos Rojo

I'd take him, he's better than our other options and the Mina deal doesn't look like it's going anywhere fast.

At this stage of the window, and with less than a handful of players even linked with us, will be very worrying if we haven't improved our back line by this time next week.

The Europa League wont attract anybody, nobody gives a toss about it as there is no money involved.

Consistently qualifying for Europe and reaching the later stages of the Europa League, will greatly improve our status among clubs in Europe, making us a more attractive offering to players. We need to be doing that year in year out.

Agreed but we need to be of rational mind set. We can't just jump levels of quality of player. People use the Robinho example but back then, City were throwing money around that no-one else had. Now everyone has money. We don't have European football nor even a working identity.
The only way we can improve is with steady improvement. Rojo is an improvement so it's a step in the right direction, albeit a small one. Lots of small steps and we'll be back in Europe (7th) and we can then start to attract the next level of quality.I certainly don't mean to appear rude but it sounds like we all need a reality check as to where we are right now. A team that had 3 managers in a season, one of which was Sam Allardyce, and finished below Burnley.

We were signing better players years ago though. Lescott and Jagielka were of a much higher quality than Rojo is right now.

I don't see us suffering from trying to 'jump a level', we are suffering because we are choosing to buy players of an inferior standard.

The reason we are on the decline is because the players that we are buying arent as good as the players that came before them.

Am I right in thinking Van Gaal also used him at left back for Utd? No idea if he was better there or at centre back, but I guess I see the sense in signing a left side who can cover both positions. The question is if he'll be solid or not.

I think the initial idea when he was bought was to play a back 3 with rojo as the lcb . I am reading that silva wants him mainly because he is a left footed cb . We can only quote stats , but what is going inside a managers mind and where is he planning to use a certain player (based on certain attributes of a player , not all of which can be quantified ) we dont know . So i wud rather trust the gaffer and be positive abt rojo if he is signed .

It doesn't though.Players don't care about the Europa. The probably don't care about the Champions League other than the big clubs because when they say they want a Champions league club what they really want is Champions League money.

I would say most players would prefer to have Thursday nights off rather than traipsing over to Almaty to play a bunch of Kazakhstani pig farmers and post men.

Rojo makes sense on paper. if we going to play this high line stuff then we need SUPER pace at the back, but this guy has made so many crazy tackles, he was actually a liability for utd.
