Summer 2018 Transfer Window

I’m a big fan of Ben Gibson. Won’t be the popular or trendy choice obviously, but then neither was Maguire when he was at Hull because he had “a big fat head” so was obviously a cart horse who couldn’t play.

Gibson has been a rock for Middlesbrough for years now. He’s a leader and an organiser, and has been their club captain since a very early age. Boro’s problem has been goalscoring in recent years, but their defensive record has always been good and Gibson has been a major reason for that.

He’s left sided which we badly need, and I could see a fruitful partnership with Holgate at the heart of the defence. Holgate is a talented player and played superbly alongside Williams for a run of games last season.

With Gibson’s leadership qualities, I could see Holgate flourish alongside him. Would also finally give us a back four with a youthful look with Digne, Gibson and Holgate all 25 and under.
Was Maguire good for Leicester last season? Because I saw the world cup performances but he was basically just asked to head the ball while Stones handled distribution and Walker covered in behind

Edit: I just checked and Leicester gave up more goals than we did last season. Swerve Maguire for sure

....well the transfer window countdown clock is well and truly ticking, so here’s what the rumour columns are saying about the Toffees this Monday morning;

- According to Gazzetta dello Sport, AS Roma defensive midfielder Maxime Gonalons is perplexed on whether to join Everton or Crystal Palace. Apparently the 29 year old Frenchman can’t make up his mind on the reported €10m move.

- Corriero Dello Sport journalist, Alfredo Pedulla, reports Everton will hold talks in London this week with Sporting CP 21 year old midfielder, Pedro Delgado.

- Two Catalan newspapers provide an update on Everton’s pursuit of Barcelona defender, Lucas Digne. Sport says the Frenchman has given Everton the ‘ok’ for the move, whilst Mundo Deportivo say the transfer is ‘already a fact’ and the only reason it is not formalised is because Everton would like to conclude a double deal with Yerry Mina. The Mirror report the French international Left Back has been given permission to leave his clubs pre-season tour.

- Sky Sports and other outlets suggest Everton goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, will be offered a new deal to stave off interest from Chelsea.

- The Daily Mirror reckon Everton and West Ham are amongst a number of clubs who have registered an interest in 6ft 9in Gillingham goalkeeper, Tomas Holy. The 26 year old started his career at Sparta Prague in his native Czechoslovakia.

- According to football journalist, Alan Nixon, Bolton are keen on taking Everton attacker, Boris Mathis on loan. The 20 year old Frenchman joined Everton last summer from FC Metz and has just 1 year left on his contract.

Can see a load of trash coming in during the final 2-3 hours of the window.

Why, get again, does it take us so long to make any signings? Between Cenk, Walcott and Richarlison, we will score goals. But leaking them will be an issue. How long will pickford want to stay if every game he’s picking the ball out of the net because the defence and midfield aren’t good enough and the club haven’t rectified it?

Come on Everton!! A big 11 days ahead.

Not sure Gonalons is what we need. He plays the same spot as Schneiderlin in a pretty similar manner and he's also getting a bit old. The positive is he isn't Schneiderlin I guess

Denis Zakaria, Upamecano and possibly lacelles and I will be super happy with this window. If I had to take two of those three I would take the first two hands down... Knowing our luck we are getting Ben Gibson and resigning Schneiderlin to a bigger deal
whats this about Schneiderlin resigning? Write the letter Morgan

...tall lad, looks a Michael Carrick type.
That would be good but can't see him having that quality of pass. Personally I'd prefer we signed a midfielder that would play in front of Gana and not next to or behind him but honestly we just need someone. I can't take 25+ games of Schneiderlin

I think we need a real physical presence in midfield

If we can't get somebody of quality in then yes. But hypothetically if say Kovacic decided to look for regular game time and we somehow convinced him I'd take it because he is going to get the ball and move it forward even though he isn't a big physical player. The question is can we find someone like that. Probably not
