It's a bollocks system. Major refereeing howlers were less thin on the ground than under this nonsense.

It's to create controversy only. As said above it's the Sky generation + media world's long held objective to turn football into a circus sideshow.

Well done, they've got their way.
Remember Maradona? Hand of God? A just win for a team, definitely not a cheated one. Endless examples of this, and we, as Evertonians, should know what decisions going against you mean.

It's literally created 0 controversy and instead resolved any controversy in this world cup, bar today. Unless by "controversy" you mean "actually reverted wrong decisions and given right ones", in which case it's controversial AF.

Today's "performance" was shocking though, to be fair. If that happens in the knockouts there'll be riots

It was. In one game. Out of 20-something-odd. I can name more shocking ref performances from last Prem season, just from our games, let alone if you look at the whole thing ffs.

Is it perfect? Perhaps no.
Is it as Dave puts it - at an apocalyptic danger of imminently destroying football? Absolutely not.

Pique should have been off for Spain (not even carded?) and their last goal ruled out

Ronaldo got a yellow for nothing (ref thankfully avoided the goading for a red) and Iran got an incredible decision for a pen that should never have been given in a month of Sundays, nearly scoring at the end which would have seen them progress.

All this being said these decisions came after several minutes of confusion and more.minutes of deliberation/review to still get decisions wrong.

If things had been ever so slightly different we'd have seen Spain and Iran through, or Portugal and Morocco (would have been closer to who deserves it really).

Imagine Russia with a VAR decision to be made on their doorstep? I wouldn't like to be the side opposing them on that day.

I would like to think that would be the only time it's not worked for the tournament. Its definitely had good effect up to now, much as the lunatic wants everyone to think otherwise

Too many pens for my liking but overall it's been better than worse. Just needs to be faster and clearer, and book players and managers who start drawing telly's in the air like those who wave imaginary yellow cards

Right. So one day, not even a full day - two matches.

The rest has been spot on.

So what's happening here is looking at a singular (albeit 'double') bit of the test sample instead of the whole of it, and making ridiculous decisions based on that.

And do you think if someone does a Collina to Russia they'd walk away from the country with their head attached to them? lol

Agreed, as I said - it's not perfect. Perhaps as the Iran (I think) manager said - maybe managers/fans should be able to hear the comms.
What you present is also a good point tbh. It should be 100% up to the ref anyway, not the most famous player on the team...

Got every key decision wrong today so what’s the point of it.

It is just awful IMO and is slowly strangling the life out of the game.

These delayed calls are just contributing to more uproar on the pitch and players are being booked because of a natural reaction of outrage at the ball being called back thirty secinds after the incident.

That Portugal penaly incident was a farce.

Either you haven’t been watching or you’re being a little biased there.

I’m not saying it’s been a disaster but to suggest that last night was the first time there’s been an issue is laughable. I said earlier in the tournament, it’s not about how many times VAR gets it ‘wrong’ it’s how many times it doesn’t get used, or a decision which isn’t clear and obvious gets changed.

I’m not a Luddite, the use of technology can be very beneficial for football, but this is a mess at the moment.

You really are only happy when you are angry aren't you.

How is your blood pressure these days? When was your last physical? I would go get a look over as these levels of stress and fume must be getting to you. 12+ years (the GOT era/TFW, I am sure many more prior to that...) can't be good for you mate.

..I like VAR and it’s here to stay. VAR isn’t a problem but the interpretation of it still is.

I think we’ll eventually see a new definition of what is and what isn’t a foul. When this evolves there will be consistency. A penalty now might not have been a penalty pre-VAR but we’ll get used to the new definition.

Also, I suspect the time consuming sight of a referee running to see a television screen will be scrapped. The VAR officials will be empowered to give the decision themselves. Give it time, it’ll be good.

I was pro-VAR before VAR. It's a disaster as it currently is and I hope they either get rid of it or refine it somehow. The World Cup was probably a bad time to introduce it in full imo.
