Summer 2018 Transfer Window

West Ham seem to be spending some decent money maybe they want some of it back, I would make a low offer for Cresswell as Baines cover for now. Remember a rumour a while back saying we were interested but at £25M, wouldn't pay that like.

Garbutt's contract runs until 2020.
Him, Bolasie, Klaassen, Sandro all at least until 2020.

At least Jagielka, Williams and Baines are OOC end of the season. Surely, surely they cannot and will not be offered new deals.

If we could lose all of the above I would be over the moon.

Wouldn't let Jags go until we have a clear replacement for him. Is why I was wondering about Gibson but I haven't seen him play much to be honest.

I reckon we’ll be sticking with Jags at least one more season.

As nice as it would be to get rid of all the crap this summer it’s perhaps a bit unrealistic.

A few more to go this summer would be nice though.

Plus, Jagielka isn't actually crap, either.

Neither is Rooney - but if he's not going to fit in the system/style, we can't spunk £150k p/wk on him.

But Jags should be fine as fourth choice - as long as that's what he is, mind.

Thing is, you say 'he'll be an England cap eventually' as if he's 20. He's 25 though, older than Stones and Maguire from the current squad, and less than a year younger than Jones. He's been knocking around for 6 years now without a PL club ever moving for him. The fact that Keane and Maguire were both picked up last year but Gibson wasn't (and still hasn't been) tells me clubs aren't sold on him.

Personally I think they're right, he looks very much like Keane to me, and I was actually more impressed with Keane when they were both in the PL (God help me). As has been said, Boro's defensive record was more to do with them being an extraordinarily negative team than colossal performances by individuals.

He was already called up to the England squad last season mate at 24 based on his performances for Boro in the PL ahead of Maguire etc, hes the same age as Maguire and Tarowski and he has represented England at every level. He only became a regular at Boro in 2014 so three seasons of senior football. Well most would know why he stayed with Boro, due to his close fmaily ties and affinity, i doubt it was due to lack of interest.

The rest is an entitled to your opinion, i just think its wrong, a very good player is Gibson.

No point he is 29 and West Ham will ask for crazy money. And he can’t even get in an average England squad.

...any CB we sign needs genuine pace, mobility and physicality to go with ability. Failure to have these attributes means we have to defend deep and have little powers of recovery when forwards get in behind.

I actually think the problem isn't with our defense more in our midfield. Our defense became sacrificial lambs for a non midfield last season. the balance of probabilities are that if a team can create more opportunists to go at a defense the likely hood for conceding or mistake being made is increased. It becomes cyclical.

This will be unpopular but i believe Keane, Williams and jags still have more then a lot to offer.

I know his age and ability are issues but we are not going to fix our problems in one or two transfer windows and I think we may need some short term tactical fixes before we can make real progress towards the top 4. I just think he could do a job for a couple of seasons then we can get Marcelo in.

I thought Garbutt was out of contract for some reason

As for the rest you mentioned it will depend on the manager surely. Most have some sort of quality about them. Maybe he think she can get the best out of Besic or Sandro for example.

Sandro like Klaassen is not physical strong enough for this league.

Don’t think Besic will make it here. He should be fine playing for Boro and we get a couple of millions back.

I think if we're spending money on LB then it has to be for a long term Baines replacement, not a stop gap and that's all Cresswell would be.

I prefer that German LB if this is between the two of them. He will cost less, 3 years younger, physically stronger and a set piece taker.

Go away out of that hes the same age as recent debutant Maguire and Tarowski and he has represented England at every level. Go away yourself and check some facts before you come out with garbage. He's had five full seasons playing for Boro not three.

If Gibson has genuinely turned down moves to top clubs because he's scared to move away from his family then he'll never make a top class player as that his simply not the right attitude. I doubt he has though.

I've never said he's not a good player, and I wasn't suggesting he'll never be an England player. The point (which seemingly sailed over your head like one of the passes teams would kill us with if we had this crab next to Keane) is that you were talking about him as if he's a player with potential, when the reality is he's basically entering his peak years right now, and is still playing in the Championship. He might go onto get 10 England caps, but I very much doubt he'll ever be a regular, because as well as the three I mentioned, you've now helpfully pointed out that he's also behind Tarkowski and Mawson who are the same age/younger.

If we were talking about paying £5m for him as a decent back up option i'd say good business, but he's absolutely not what we need at the moment. He's basically a clone of the defenders we currently have, and at the sort of fees being talked about would - in my opinion - be a continuation of the awful transfer business we have conducted in recent years.

..I try not to have an opinion on individuals because I don’t know the system Silva intends to play but Cresswell is very light framed and I think time in the Premiership catches up with blokes like him. He certainly isn’t the type we need as far as i’m concerned.
