2017/18 Wayne Rooney

Would like to think our new management team saying he's a "club legend" was lost in translation. He certainly isn't/wasn't that. He was at Man Utd for about 80% of his career. Premier league 'legend' is a better description.
Don't mind him coming back in a few years time to coach (not bothered if he doesn't either). But, if he's not in the managers plans he's in the same boat as any other player. Stay and sit on the bench (with your £150k per week), or go and play somewhere else.

Would love Rooney to stay, he can still play a part for us next season but must accept he is not an automatic choice...

Rooney would get us 10-15 goals next season with assists, he adds influence to our team & could be vital in our squad as Marco Silva transforms the team into a more positive & forward playing team, this would suit Rooney who could benefit from this new system...

This is just nonsense, what sort of influence does he have on the team? We were complete crap last season with him involved so we can do without that sort.
He won't get 10-15 goals from the bench. spunking 150k p/w on a Rooney is the biggest waste of money from any club in the premier league

Rooney must have huge influence on the young players around him this should inspire them to play better & perform to their maximum...

Rooney is more than capable of getting 10-15 goals in a season, he did it last season in a average side that struggled to score goals for much of the season, with a more positive looking team better players & improving youngsters he would score 10-15 goals again I have no doubt...

All well and good believing that. But how on earth does he get in to a pressing Silva side when his legs are completely shot?

11 goals in 36 appearances was not bad - and pretty good by our standards last season. But not what he was. FS did not seem to know where to play him. That does not necessarily mean he is unplayable. And he should not be over the hill at 32. But how do you speed him up? His experience ought to count for something, and he does have a far better then average feel for the game, and can put the ball where it is needed (so long as he doen't bneed to run for it first). And while 150k pw is a lot (and would be truly magnificant to earn in a year for most of us), he was free, so there is no capital to pay out.

In reality 11 goals + 3 assists for an outlay of £7.5m doesn't even come in the top 100 wastes of money in the history of the premier league.

Exactly. Do wish he could accept a role as an impact sub.

Wayne Rooney is very much past his best. Everton have to balance the books a bit, reduce the squad and Wayne is highly paid so that is an issue.
He has not got the pace for ninety minutes 'in the thick of it' any more.

just about sums it up, a decent goal return for his position but his overall play isn't up to standard if we want to push on now.

A 3 year deal for him in America is the best deal for everyone and good luck to the lad.

Noticed last night with Schneidelein & Gueye behind him he was able to get in the box a bit more...

Rooney still our top goalscorer & can still play a role & has the ability to get 10-15 goals a season...

I know you don't like him but we all have our opinions...

I like him & wish him well he is our top goalscorer this season & he is capable of getting 10-15 goals again next season...

Rooney playing more advanced the last two games with gueye & Schneidelein behind has meant him being able to get in the box a bit more where he can be at his most dangerous...

Still can do a job for Everton next season & get 10-15 goals...

So how many goals do you think he’d get next season mate?

Rooney has to go because we need to recoup money , not because the move was a failure.
As a squad player he would be very useful in the coming season but we simply cannot afford to pay somebody 150k per week just to play in some games.
If he really wants to stay so badly he could drop his wage to a miserly 60k per week... problem solved.

Even 60k pw is too much for a squad player. I'm sorry but we need to move away from paying big money to 'former greats'...it stinks of Gazza/Ginola et al.
We owe Rooney NOTHING...He moved on when we actually needed him...we're now moving on when he needs us

One of the problems may be that he wanted / expected captaincy, and maybe we all thought that a 'captain' or 'leader' to all the young english players and Vlasic, Pickford etc, might be really really helpful. but we cant even be sure if they are inspired by his super healthy living, clean, dedicated lifestyle. If managed correctly, we could have seen him lead us out to a cup final win, but that was in the heady fantasy days of last summer when we were going to win everything:celebrate:

I think you will probably find that 60k is average for squad players in teams that want to play in the top half of the premiership.

I do agree that we cannot afford to keep him at 150k per week. I think it is a pity that he is leaving because I think our young players could learn so much from him. He is still a huge name in football and did help raise our profile last season but the cost is too great.
I think that Rooney may be leaving as much because he realises that he is a declining force at the highest level as any other reason.
He seems very knowledgeable and shrewd about football and would know very well what he was capable of in the coming season.
