You think Rooney is playing well in midfield do you, he can barely get out of the centre circle without blowing out of his arse and his passing to the opposition is quite remarkable. Davies can improve(he can go either way) and having better players around him and as we all agree a better manager, still could be a decent midfield player, Rooney on the other hand is declining at a exceptional rate and will never improve in midfield.

You bring up the top scorer thing regular, he could have had even more if he'd stayed as a fading striker instead of being a Lidl Pirlo, and imagine he'd not missed those pens another 3, you could have had a party, pity the rest of us can see how poor he's been but keep fighting his corner it's admirable.
I like Tom.
But he's not even in the same class as Rooney.

You peddling this idea Rooney is worthless must be agenda. I say that because there are tangible benefits to having Rooney in the side.

How many goals, key passes, assists... Whatever metric you want to use... Does Tom Have? Vs Rooney?

It’s funny really that comments such as “he’s no good against decent teams” I’ve read
Against City when off the bench Davis was the only one putting in a tackle and getting up close to the opposition.
He’s also got a pass on him and vision which other players don’t see. He’s capable of that and much more.
He’s not been at his best this season due to the most important thing CONFIDENCE!! or lack of
Whereas Rooney was hopeless against city and the scum. Not a midfielder IMO.
Not Rooney’s fault by the way as he is a forward all day long. Should be in the number 10 role ideally

.... which is exactly what you are doing with Davies, except one of them actually has an end product to defend.

I'm defending Davies because it's early stages of his career and is currently carrying An ageing Rooney and a terrible Schneiderlin on his shoulders. He's got a lot to do and improve on but he has the potential to do exactly that. Rooney is declining fast.

You're getting mixed up between Rooney the (albeit faded) striker who can still offer something and Rooney the jarg midfielder who is contributing to us being an utter mess in the middle of the park.

I'm not getting mixed up at all, I'm praising a top scoring Rooney who is surrounded by headless chicken Gueye, Schneiderlin who has been abysmal, and Davies who, well, what does he actually do? Doesn't score, doesn't setup goals, doesn't really tackle or block shots, doesn't dictate tempo... I dunno. Runs about? Makes ageing Blues wistful? Take us up to a regulation 11 players?

It's not an agenda at all, Rooney is a forward player not a midfielder, he is woefully inadequate to play the position he is currently being deployed in. Move him further forward and he can still offer something but if his name wasn't Wayne Rooney he'd be getting laughed at for his performances in the middle of the park and i stand by that.

How many key passes and assists does Wayne have since moving back? All his decent work came at the start of the season when played further forward.

Let's be honest - if a non-Evertonian youth product had produced the "performances" Davies has produced this season, he'd be laughed out of town. He'd be the new Snivelley and be on the end (rightly) of the full Boo Gallery.

You've just got this weird 'he's young so he's good' agenda. I mean, it's fine, but you're backing the wrong horse.

Everything you say of the other 3 in midfield is equally applicable to Rooney when he plays in the centre, he's terrible and the majority of us can see that.
Rooney can't tackle - check.
Rooney runs around like a headless chicken when playing midfield - check
Rooney dictates tempo - lol

We are flogging a dead horse, we don't agree, I'm just more prepared to give the 19 year old who has to do the running for 2 other players the benefit of the doubt. Would I prefer better quality in there than all of them, of course i would but i'm not holding this romanticised notion that Wayne is a midfielder because he's not.

I haven't said he's young so he's good, your twisting to suit your own agenda. I would have preferred we had bought a better quality of player and bedded the youngsters in slowly.

I'm backing the wrong horse the young lad as opposed to the finished striker, give me a break.

But Rooney does dictate the tempo of the game, like at home to West Ham and Brighton. Yes, very poor against City and Liverpool, but mainly due to hopeless midfield partners.

Tom Davies is very poor. The vast majority agree with this, I think, deep down, even he knows he isn't good enough for the first team. I think his next move is crucial, somewhere like Wigan might be good for him.

He's 19 , highly thought of in the game and an England u21 international. I agree that he's played too many games and I'd rather he wasn't having to play every game but he has been no worse than the other seasoned full international players.

He's not had a good season Davies, I know that he's struggled but so has everybody, we have been exceptionally poor so I think it's just strange that the young kid is taking all the flak whilst Rooney is being lauded by you as some sort of maestro in the centre of the park, which is so far from the truth .

No mate, it's about contextualising.

I'm saying Davies has been poor generally but still have faith he'll come good.

Rooney has played far better but you're looking for ways to beat him. Even the staunchest of Rooney fans will admit against the top sides in the latter part of the seasons he's been poor. But that doesn't diminish what he's done in the majority of games.

If Davies becomes a 1/5 of the player Rooney was and is then he'll have had a v good career.

If I was comparing Tom Davies to anybody it would be the nineteen year old Steven Gerrard. I think that Gerrard is the player his career could mirror as he ages.... if he will be as good only time will tell.
A box to box midfielder who drives the game with his effort and enthusiasm as much as with his skill.
I think he will in time grow into being a leader on the field and already at nineteen is already mature... but leadership is something you have to grow into.

I really really rate Davies, but comparing him to Gerrard is way off the mark, just purely on the shooting from distance stakes.

Bryan Robson, Roy Keane at Forest if we were looking at playing styles he should be looking to emulate

Think that's fair enough. To even try to compare the two players is a bit silly really. You can compare them both at the same age, but even then the only thing they have in common is being born within the boundaries of Liverpool.

Personally I believe that both players need to have their games managed better than they have so far this season, and not just by Allardyce in fairness. They need to play in the games where they will have most influence. They also both need regular resting, although for different reasons obviously.

As regards Rooney, I had hoped for more from him on the field, but his game has faded more than I realised. In games where we expect to have more possession he is still very much an asset, as we have no other player who is capable of controlling the game in those circumstances. Ideally, we also need to be able to get him to operate as far forward as possible to benefit from scoring and creative talents, and that's been one of the challenges that successive managers have had this season as it often leaves the team shape very unbalanced.

But it's off field that I really hoped for more from Rooney. I had visions of him working closely with the likes of Davies and our other promising young players, passing on his experience and knowledge of over a decade at the top of world football. I'm not hearing anything at all out of Finch Farm that anything like this is happening, which is a massive shame as opportunities like this will not happen again. I can see him go off for a final big pay day in the USA next season as I think the penny has dropped that he can no longer do it against the big teams.
