If anyone is on Twitter, the sport witness Twitter account has just called out the echo for plagiarism asking questions about it to paul gorst and kristian Walsh. This brands story was one of the ones used with the same headline as the sport witness one

But disappointing performances since 2008 meant that the club ended up with a yearly €10–20 million negative balance, forcing the club to cut costs and obtain new revenues. The ground under the stadium and the training facilities were sold for €48.4 million to the Eindhoven municipality in a leasehold estateconstruction. PSV also took out a €20 million loan with Philips and additional loans with local entrepreneurs.[102] The club also introduced sponsoring on the back of the player kits. Freo, part of De Lage Landen, was the company to present its name there.[103]

Wasn't this why they brought Brands in to begin with? PSV was very good during the 2000s, but it clearly wasn't sustainable. Brands has got them back on top, 3 wins in 4 years.

At the end of 2009, the PSV in Brands leaked the ideal candidate to become a technical manager. [22] PSV had a major administrative upheaval. Commercial director Marcel van den Bunder was announced, where General Director Jan Reker announced his duties in favor of Tiny Sanders . Jelle Goes was appointed head of youth training as a replacement for Wiljan Vloet and technical manager Adrie van Kraaij was placed back in the scouting. On 21 May 2010 he signed a four-year contract with the Eindhoven club, where he started his activities on 1 June. [23]

PSV had some difficult years after the departure of Guus Hiddink and also the first years of Brands' appointment were disappointing. In 2011, the team finished disappointingly third, meaning they failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League . In the summer of 2011 PSV sold the ground under its Philips stadium and training complex De Herdgang to the municipality of Eindhoven for 48 million euros, so that the club got more financial opportunities. [24] Brands spent a lot of money on the transfer market that summer. In this way he got Przemysław Tytoń , Timothy Derijck and Jetro Willemsto the club. The biggest hits however were Tim Matavž , who came for 5.5 million from FC Groningen and Dries Mertens and Kevin Strootman , who jointly came for 13 million euros from FC Utrecht . [25]When PSV, despite the large investments, threatened the same scenario in 2012 as in the previous year, Brands sacked head coach Fred Rutten on 12 March , with whom he had worked closely in previous years. The season was closed again with a third place, led by youth coach Phillip Cocu and the Ernest Faber who had passed over from FC Eindhoven.. [26]

PSV would celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2013. In order to win the championship for the 100th anniversary, Brands overtook former trainer Dick Advocaat as new trainer and former player Mark van Bommel made his comeback. In addition, the club took over Luciano Narsingh for over 4 million euros from sc Heerenveen . [27] Nevertheless, Lawyer did not manage to lead PSV to the championship and in the summer of 2013 he was succeeded by Phillip Cocu. [28] In the summer of 2013, the Eindhoven selection again underwent a metamorphosis. For many millions, Brands Jeremain Lens (for 9 million to Dinamo Kiev)), Dries Mertens (for 9.7 million to Napoli ) and Kevin Strootman (for 17 years to AS Roma ), while Adam Maher (for 6.5 million AZ) and Jeffrey Bruma (for 3 million of Chelsea FC) ) took over. In addition, Stijn Schaars and Santiago Arias jointly transferred about 1.5 million from Sporting Lisbon . Despite the meager sporting results of the first years, PSV was satisfied with the work of Brands and rewarded him with a new contract until 2017. [29]

In the first season under Cocu, AFC Ajax took off for the fourth time with the championship. In April 2014, Brands was joined by Toon Gerbrands at PSV, among whom he previously worked at AZ. [30] In the summer, Brands invested in a new peak. Matavž was sold for 4 million to FC Augsburg and Luuk de Jong was taken over from Borussia Mönchengladbach for 5.5 million . He knew the Mexican Andrés Guardado hire for 1 million of Valencia CF . More importantly, he managed to keep Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay one more season for the club. [31]That season, PSV became champion of the Netherlands for the first time since 2008. [32] That summer, Depay left for 30 million euros to Manchester United and Wijnaldum for 20 million euros to Liverpool FC , while PSV, among others, Davy Pröpper, took a modest 4.5 million from SBV Vitesse . [33] On 29 April 2016, Brands renewed its contract with PSV once again, this time until 2020. [34] PSV also won the Dutch championship in 2016, in which both Gerbrands and Brands were praised for the peace and stability they had created at the club. [35] [36]

PSV's budget in 2011 was €60 million.[101] Before 2011, PSV's budget would only remain balanced if the team would qualify for the UEFA Champions League every year. So he's getting worse year by year? Hmm

The simple answer is they've plagiarised whatever they've used on the Brands story, just like they do with most other stories. So if it's wrong then the error lies elsewhere.

Kristian Walsh - he of the 'caught crying on TV' fame - tried to take it to email... and remarkably actually said

So he and his colleague nicked it from elsewhere. That's alright then!

Are they nicking it and passing it off as their story, or sourcing it, like BBC Gossip does?
