2017/18 Wayne Rooney

I think there are two aspects here

1.Is Rooney a liability - No . He has a bigger role to play off the field . HE is the leader , the guy who has won it all , the winning mentality , the guy who can absorb pressure in big matches n be the leader on pitch. He can play the role which scholes n giggs played in united in their last two years .

2.Is Rooney a liability at 150k per week - Well thats tricky . MAybe .. But with Moshiri loosening his wallet , maybe we can afford him as of now
1. Is Rooney a liability - YES
2. Is Rooney a liability at 150k a week - Totally, and its a travisty he was brought back with those wages. He is performing like a 30k a week player.

Hate Sam, but the team started playing after he got hooked so the decision was vindicated.

I think it might be time for Wayne to sample some dog in China this coming summer.

The wage stealing thief (tbh both of them are - but more so 'Wazza') can do one. Only a few soft arses who had the wool pulled over their eyes by luvvy Kenwright welcomed him back. Those of us with his heads screwed on correctly could see him for what he really is, namely a has-been who can no longer dictate a game and is in no way either a striker, an effective number 10 nor an anchor midfielder. He's good for 30 minute cameos against poor teams, and that's it. Koff Wayne yer greedy get.

I never wanted him back as the vaults will show. I've applauded some of the good performances he gave us, particularly in the first half of the season but he's been badly crap since the new year I'd say.

He was always going to be a sentimental waste of money done for commercial reasons and to placate Bill before showing him the door.

With no Europe to stretch the squad out next year and him looking increasingly limited it is going to be a struggle getting value for money out of him.

I hate seeing him playing poorly being used by others to try and justify their position that Sigurdsson is actually providing anything near value for money. The truth is they've both under-delivered, but I expected Rooney to be finished and he surprised by having something left in the tank whereas Sigurdsson has just been a let down because my expectations were understandably higher for our record signing.

baffling people think having the odd average game against the likes of stoke is well worth us paying him 100k+ p/w.
he should be out the door in the summer and get a player in that doesnt 'need legs around him'.
Equally baffling that you don't think he's worth £100k+ a week but it'll be dead easy for us to offload him in the summer to someone who does.

I certainly don't think paying him astronomical wages has been justified, I never thought it would be, but if we forget that and look solely at his performances then there are lots of players who've been worse than him this season.

Well it's up to him, if he wants to sit in the stands for a year milking the club. A competent manager(fingers crossed we actually get one) won't have him anywhere near the 1st 18 next season.

Only if we sign 6/7 good players. As I said, there'll be plenty who I would be showing the door before him based on this season. I certainly don't want to see him starting in midfield against good sides next year but I would be very (pleasantly) surprised if we improve the squad to such an extent that we don't need him as an option from the bench at the very least.
