"Lines up as the most attacking of three".

Total nonsense. Rooney often played ahead of him in those games.

HEY LADS BAINES HAS A 100% WIN RECORD SINCE HE HAS BEEN BACK, PROBS BEST LEFT BACK IN THE WORLD.

Both statements equally have correct information (the form) interpreted wrongly.

Thing is mate, if it's over a period of games then a coincidence becomes less likely.

The narrative now from some, 'Davies is crap' not good enough needs to be dropped etc.

When he's dropped and we play Rooney against a good team or away and he stinks the gaff out or we play 2 dm's and bring Schneiderlin in etc, then we slate the team and the players cos we lack anything going forward centrally etc and we again as a team stink the gaff out

Then the shouts to bring Davies back in for energy etc and someone who at least tries to pass and get forward come around.

Is Davies good enough for a top 4-6 team right now, obviously he isn't, will he ever be - nobody honestly knows, because as has been said a lot - the lad is only 19, i saw Lampard playing for the Under 21's in Barca years ago, think he was captain and about 20/21, and honestly he looked like he'd never really amount to much above the West Ham/Mark Noble level. Similarly saw Ebrell when he was about 18 and he looked like he could go on to be a cracking player, in reality he turned out a very average player indeed.

Also Davies isn't good enough right now clearly for a top 4-6 team, but look at the squad and how many of them actually are? and how many that aren't have 5-6 years at least of development ahead of them before they are what is considered a peak age etc?

The two things i can say with pretty much a certainty, in the current midfield we have the options of, he's the only one who plays all out and the only one with legs who can also drive forward. Is that good enough to keep him in the team, IMO yes it is, is it good enough that he should be starting next season - hoepfully not, i'd like to think we can recruit better than he currently is and let his development with us settle down to maybe how it should have been had we not been so god damned awful the last 2 seasons in the centre than we needed to throw a 18/19 year old lad in for pretty much too many games.

Meanwhile Tom Davies ghosts his way through the whole season and people forgive him cos hes young.

Don't think he does ghost through games though, yeah he's had some poor games, but not seen the lad go hiding much compared to seasoned internationals we are paying 100k pw and paid 20m+ for either.

And personally a young lad should be given a huge amount of allowances to help them develop, otherwise you end up bombing any young player out the team eventually like happens at Chelsea, United etc

Im just memeing bruh.

I personally would be giving Davy a chance, but other than that he keeps his place by the sheer fact that we simply dont have a better option, as ive said, he has many very good attributes and as he "grows" and learns he will only get better. A player with very high energy and excellent technical skills will always find a spot in a team.

I get a lot of this mate - the problem is, he's had the game time at the top level which surely must be the best place to develop his game (and in a midfield three, where he isn't exposed like a CB or keeper would be) and I dont see him as better than he was. Is he actually improving?

I don't think we were hoping he'd carry us, but when it was really rough he went missing - not unlike more senior pros. Kenny is a poor player but at least he has tenacity. You know I don't tend to agree with Esk but his point about Davies and DCL blurting around Dubai was a good one; the only photos you saw of Cenk were him with a sweat on, scoring goals in training.

Look at some of the raw youngsters we've had - they have all have had one area they excelled in even if poor in others. Lukaku had the shins like an absent father's maintenance payments but he could score from anywhere. Barkley was still waiting for the lights to go up at Garlands the night before at kick off, but he could leather it in from miles out. Stones had so much talent. Even on the tier below, Hibbo finished his career without passing to a teammate but he could always tackle.

What does Davies do well?

Our "experienced" players are the reason we are in the mess we are in. Williams, Keane, Sigurdsson, Rooney, Bolasie, Martina, Schneiderlein.

Yeah, let's get more of them, I mean, quoting you, "experienced players give you more".
You forgot Jagielka, Mirallas and Klaassen. And arguably Baines before he got injured:)

Excellent technical skills ?????????

He's not playing well enough to be in the starting 11 at the moment. But with Sigurdsson now injured, it's harder to justify taking him out as the alternatives are even worse. Schneiderlin and Klaassen neither of which have shown any sort of form this season.

I do think he's having a poor second season and needs to concentrate on working on his weaknesses, but people are far too quick to write the younger players off. He's only 19 and although his form has been poor, he's still been put in to an Everton side where a lot of the more senior players have failed to take the responsibility for their own performances which has left us relying more on the younger players to be consistent which the vast majority of young players aren't at this age.

There is definitely a talented player in there, with some attributes that will be needed in this squad over the next few years - e.g works hard, doesn't shy away from tackles, likes to go forward with the ball. The main disappointment i've got is that I think last season he helped drive us forward but was good in possession. This season he's been a liability with the ball at his feet and he needs to get that back, because the 2 things mentioned in terms of effort won't mask other deficiencies in his game. A midfielder needs to be assured on the ball and at the moment he's not so he could do with a spell on the bench, coming on for 20-30 mins.

What does Davies do well, from my take on it, think he's got a very good engine, has 'tenacity', good technique, good passer and good movement, and he gets himself into a lot of good positions (see the chance he should have buried the other day) BUT he's not amazing in anything at this point either and he's also lacking in size, pace and ultimately consistency for certain.

You say it's an easier position as your not exposed as much to be thrown into, i beg to differ, and think it's one of the hardest because any flaw in your game is harder to protect in that position, which ultimately is why you maybe see less cm's playing at his age than any other position besides for keepers

Is he improving, hard to say, as last season he came into a side and gave it an energy boos massively due to being fresh and no one having any idea about him opposition wise, this year his legs aren't fresh when others are tiring and most opp managers have an idea bout him and so do the players he's playing against also, so looks like he's regressed, when maybe the true story is he's finding it harder now because it is harder due to him not being an unknown, next season will show if he's good enough to adapt and ultimately a lot of players face that same learning curve once they first break through.

Kenny i disagree on you hugely, think he got absolutely thrown into a [Poor language removed] storm of a team and a mess off the field and was left to hang by the players around him etc, think he will go on to improve from the experience hopefully too, again time will tell.

yeah not a good look from them, neither was it from Holgate either - and some showed how it should be done, then again was Tosun at 19 doing it that way himself, honestly don't know.

Nah

I really don't like the way he chucks himself to the ground way too often. He seems to have stalled this season not sure if that is fat Sams fault but he does look very jaded.
