No tax returns this year Doddy.

The truth is he never screwed the taxman, he had to pay interest and penalties along with the tax due. The court merely established the level of his guilt in order to levy a term of imprisonment which was due under the Taxes Acts. He was a great comedian, possbly the best this city ever produced but he also had a miserly side to his character. He once tried to screw a Clatterbridge fund raiser by asking from dressing room for twice the agreed sum to be paid in cash there and then or he wouldn't appear, the court case gave many instances of that ploy being used.

Ken Dodd adored being a star and the adulation that goes with it, his stage performances were second to none. Yes he will be missed but don't forget his character was complexed and multi sided.

Top quality writing, with actors who complimented each other perfectly.

I still watch Mash on a regular basis and it`s just as funny today, as it was then.

..I often walk past Ken Dodd’s house on Thomas Lane but haven’t seen him about for a long time. I know he’d been in Broadgree hospital for a while. Brilliantly bright mind, apparently great value for those who saw him on stage as he would tell gags for hours on end. For those who are not from Liverpool, Knotty Ash is an actual place. How tickled he made us.
