You’d rather big Sam?

Than Martinez? It’s Hobson’s choice but yes. People seem to have forgotten life under Martinez. That first season aside it was constant worries of relegation, horrific football that produced absolute dirges of games when we struggled to create even a shot. Certain games where we played 4 holding midfielders in the line up. Kone and Cleverley on the flanks, Barkley and Lukaku never dropped or even subbed towards the end. The players didn’t respect him because they knew he was a joke, he didn’t even work on set pieces. That’s before you take into account the two worst performances I’ve ever seen at Anfield from Everton sides and one of the worst at Goodison where against an average Liverpool side we barely even crossed the halfway line and got the 0-0 we set up to get against the likes of Lambert Ibe and Balotelli.

Absolutely spot on. Amazing how some fans try and claim that things weren't that bad under Martinez. It's undeniable that his first season was excellent, but the reality is that from the 3-2 home defeat against Palace which derailed our CL challenge to his last game, things were awful under him in the league, and he didn't provide a trophy.

As frustrating as it was under Moyes at times, and our inability to compete against the top sides away, even in poorer seasons he still had us 7th/8th, and at times he'd get us 6th, even in a more disappointing season.

Love how the lack of shots, and hammerings are used against Allardyce as a stick to beat him with when we were absolutely taken apart by the RS under Martinez twice and in one game the shot count ended 37-3, with us having no shots on target yet it is overlooked. That's not defending Allardyce's tactics or results against Arsenal or Spurs, just pointing out that it's been happening under Martinez, and happened under Koeman earlier in the season.

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.

Yeah, let's place that first season aside and preferably expunge it eh? That'd be convenient for you wouldn't it?

And the other two seasons: midtable seasons we all feared we'd be relegated in. Lol. The seasons when we were the last English club involved in European competition and we reached two cup semi finals. Not to forget the "horrific football" that people were lauding at the time as the reopening of the school of science.

Sorry, that argument is dead.

lol

...but it is deniable...there's people even in this thread denying it.

23 wins out 38 games playing great football - booooo! it didn't happen!!!

At one point in 14/15 people on here were panicking because Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa won a game and we were 2 points above the drop zone. That was in Jan/Feb if I remember. We needed Osman and Lennon to pretty much rescue that season. Finishing bottom half in this league when you have one of the best strikers in the league is unbelievably poor. It’s even worse when you consider that there was Van Gaal’s United, Rodgers Liverpool, Pellegrini’s City, and Arsenal getting weaker and weaker. We should have been knocking on the top 6 door but instead we were scrapping with the bottom 13. Even Allardyce having received an absolute basket case has managed to ease us ahead of most of the dross.

I’m not discounting the first season, that was very good, but we all said that the third seaso would be the indicator of where he was going and everything was pointing downwards hence why Martinez out banners came out.

Allardyce has been a disaster. The only reason we are where we are is that we were already near mid-table when he arrived here and the rest of the teams in the league behind us are a joke.

This league is nowhere near as competitive as it was even 4/5 seasons ago.

I prefer Dave M to Dave K @MoutsGoat
