When Allardyce came in we were 5 points clear of the drop zone. 12 games, £50m, and a couple of key players back from injury later, the gap is 7 points.

He's not fulfilled any promises, he's done the absolute bare minimum that anybody could reasonably have expected. I'm not exaggerating when I say that had we lost to Leicester rather than won (and let's remember that they hit the woodwork three times and had a shot cleared off the line), I would fully be expecting him to get sacked for actually taking us closer to the drop.

As it is, I think we can muddle through to the end of the season and hope that the powers that be have an actual plan for taking this club forward both on and off the pitch.

I'm playing Devil's advocate here to a degree

We were in 16th place, 2 points above the bottom three when Allardyce was appointed - those 3 points against West Ham didn't come until after Allardyce had signed on the dotted line

We had just been snotted at Southampton - I don't necessarily blame the board for panicking at this point

In fact, earlier in the season I advocated sacking Koeman in a discussion about our manager and letting Unsworth take over - my reasoning at the time was that if it went really badly, we could always get Allardyce in to make sure we stay up until the end of the season

I don't want him here past the end of this season, but I don't think the board were totally wrong to make the decision they did at the time based on what was happening to us - for context, these were our last 13 results before Allardyce came in...

I don't think it's totally unreasonable that they made the decision they did at the time they did

Granted, it hasn't been a miracle turnaround, but if we stay up maybe that was all the board was concerned with at the time - it did look like we were spiralling out of control

Whether it was unreasonable to make the decision or not isn't what we were talking about though. Koeman had to go, Unsworth didn't look like he had it in him, no arguments there.

What I was taking issue with is the idea that Allardyce himself has done a good job and saved us when we looked doomed. We're 2 points further away from danger than we were, and the 'context' you've provided shows us taking 5 points from 7 league games prior to him being appointed. Guess how many points we've got from our last 7 league games? Yep, 5. We really haven't got any better.

*Edited to stay on topic* If we carry on picking up a few points here and there and winning a few home games I don't see the point in protesting, but if it looks like he's staying next season I'll be right behind it.

Yeah, I'm not trying to say he's done a particularly good job. Ultimately those 10 points we got from his first four games are what will make a big difference to us, the way things look to be going, but other than that it's been awful - every bit as awful as what went before it

I am in no way giving BFS any credit for that West Ham game. Don't get me wrong Unsy didn't look great but he won bot home games he had in the prem. I think he could have kept us up easily and possibly progressed himself.

He gave the team talk and the players gave a performance knowing the big man was in the stands. He influenced it big time.

The watford win was a pure fluke too, still thanking Cleverly to this day.

We looked so so so out of sorts under Unsy, like terribly bad.

If we can't take 7 points from the remaining 12 games we have from the likes of Palace, Swansea, Newcastle, West Ham and Huddersfield then we totally deserve to go down.

At this point I think you'd have to actually try to get relegated. We're safe.

We're not safe until we're safe

I wouldn't trust this spineless collection of so called footballers to break wind after eating a curry, let alone get to 40 points with any real ease

Unsworth picked the team, the formation and gave the team talk, to date that is the most successful team and formation we have had this season also our best performance since that game was against Leicester where we used the same formation and largely the same team

Sam already said he spoke to the players.

They were playing for their positions in the team as the new manager watched in the stands.

It's not a coincidence they tried 1000x harder in that game than every other one of Unsys.

Yet people want Silva who took Hull down with a bigger points gap than when he took over because he played 'good football' ...

Blues, Moshiri will have someone lined up at the end of the season.

Allardyce was a last resort/bottle job with relegation talk - anyone who come in at that point was always going to find it tough.

The season has been a write off for a while, just need to see it out now damage limitation style.

That's slightly out of context though. Hull had won their first two games of the season but then only won one of their next 18 games before he took over. Silva made a massive difference to them, but ultimately wasn't good enough to keep them up. I'd have taken Silva previously, but I have to admit that the troubles he had at Watford have made me doubt that he's the candidate we're looking for.

I do hope so, but Marco Silva is not the answer imo, it has to be someone with a proper track record who can coach the players properly.
