This is another massive casualty of the Sam Hammam MkII era, have no doubt about that.

We have lost here a man who has been key to the development of our youngsters and got many through to the first team. That's come about because he was handed a ridiculous poison chalice of trying to get a first team shot of confidence back up the league (which he succeeded in doing, btw) without ever being given the credibility of named full time manager.

The general perception is that he has lost face now and needs to go out to prove himself as manager and that's what he's doing. Our best interests however were served better by him staying here in his role at the Academy, but the upset caused by making him PT first team manager has wrecked that.

An utter shambles this season has turned out to be.

So you'd rather deny him the chance of going out and being a proper manager just to service our academy?

He took us down from 18th to 13th.
Goodison wanted him gone. We were getting hammered in every game he managed. One good 20 minute spell against Watford and a West Ham game, that had they scored a penalty would have been totally different, does not change that fact.

No, I'd rather he hadn't been disturbed in the first place by Sam Hammam and left to get on with his work, keeping his powder dry to make his managerial debut as a FT coach with all the credibility that brings.

Unsworth set out the game plan for that match. Have you EVER seen us play like that under this cave man in the dug out right now?

We weren't that good in that match though. Very lucky in some moments, rebound penalty for us, Pickford great save from their penalty, Cresswell hit the bar, Rooney scored an absolute worldy, Joe Hart was awful etc.

By the same stretch you could flip your statement round and argue had we played like under Unsworth before? Depending on how good you think we were in that match (my opinion is we were slightly above average, quite fortunate and playing a side with rock bottom confidence) then the answer would be no.

Better record than Allardyce on a PT job description with these players who respect hardly anyone.

I'd say he plaited sawdust under the circumstances.

Would be a good move for him.

If he’s got serious ambitions of being our manager, then he needs to prove himself in a ‘proper’ job.

My point is that under the circumstances that Sam Hammam dropped him into he acquitted himself well.

Any self-respecting club out there will look at his managerial career on the whole when judging his suitability not solely on his firefighting job here.

We can only hope so.

One thing I do know is that Sam Hammam has reduced Unsworth's chances of managing here.

Did he also have to juggle some rubbish Euro Disney dead games in the air?
He had the opportunity to qualify for the knockouts of the Europa League, he managed to get our worst home defeat in the competition instead.

Don’t let facts get in the way of your agenda, though. Not that it ever usually stops you.
