Time for the players to start doing some talking on the pitch rather than playing dumb on it.

Crucial period coming up now - no more hiding room for shirkers and cowards in the squad.
I agree.
I think Sam knows by now who is up for a battle( that is why McCarthy is such a loss ) and we may see some faces on the bench that may not have expected to be there.

I hate to agree with the comet head but he’s right. We must be playing the worst football in the league. This team does nothing well.

We’re equally close to 7th aren’t we? Personally I don’t think he believed this.

He’s either playing down expectations or giving the players a fright, or both.

he's playing down expectations. If we tip toe over the 40 points line (which we should) and finish 15th he can claim his appointment was a success, he was appointed to steady the ship and prevent us from going down and he's done just that. If he starts talking about Europe and we finish 15th he's a failure. He's ensuring he doesn't come out of this season looking bad, it's all self-preservation

Be tricky tho. But we should have more than enough

36 points is the average a teams needed to stay up over the last 5 season, 3 wins and we’re past that.

42 points is the most a teams been relegated with in a 38 game season. We’re 15 points from that.

We’ve averaged 1.3 points a game under Allardyce after 10 games, which has included Liverpool (a), Chelsea (h), United (h) and Spurs (a).

We’ve got an easier run in, than the run of games we’ve had since Allardyce started. But even if we continue with the same points per game average, we’d pick up 18 more points (finishing on 46).

In 03/04 when we picked up 39 points (worst in our history), we finished the season with a 1 point per game average over the last 14 games. In 97/98 we averaged 0.9 points per game & 0.9 in 93/94.

We need about 0.6 points per game to get to 36 and a point per game to get to 42. It’d take one of the worst finishes to a season in our Premier League history for us to get dragged into a relegation battle.

(Sorry about the stats overload, slow day in work)

Don't apologise. They are needed for those who are ignoring the reality of the situation and are claiming we are doomed when there are 11 worse teams than us as it stands, and likely will be at least 8 or 9 come the end of the season, even if we continue our poor run of form.

I think in some of these people's minds, they have genuinely told themselves that we will struggle to get even say 5 more points and clubs like Swansea and West Brom will go on a winning streak and if we don't get to 40 points we're down.

Imagine this about 3/4 years ago. Selling Lukaku, Barkley and Stones then appointing Allardyce. WTF has happened to this club?

It does my head in.

Considering we’ve still got the likes of Palace, Brighton, Newcastle & Southampton at home to play and go away to Watford, Huddersfield, Stoke & Swansea. We’ve got more than enough opportunities to pick up points and keep ourselves comfortably away from it.

What does my head in is, we have played three games recently against West Brom (twice) and Bournemouth teams! West Brom first time around and Bournemouth both in the bottom three before those games started! We managed the sum total of two points from those three games!
Yes we have opportunities coming up, should “we keep ourselves comfortably away from it” - yes we should! Will we, well that’s what we’ll all have to wait and see, it ain’t going to be easy watching that’s for sure!
