one of the best games i seen him play .. i think it was england vs spain in a friendly and he was used as a attacking mid and looked excellent

then i think he got a major injury a month later ... dunno wether he can still make a career hes still only young-ish .. just while were on sunderland and players .. ty browning has looked abysmal when ive seen him play

If he was from a country that is actually good at developing young players (e.g. Germany, France or Croatia) he’d be a quality player in his prime now.

But no, he was a young English player who showed an ounce of talent so had to immediately be put on a multi-million pound a year deal. Life sorted at 20 in one stroke of a pen. No incentive to ever put in hard graft ever again.

Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney, Ferdinand, Terry etc. did alright. More recently Kane, Sterling and Alli are well on their way to a successful career.

The English National set up definitely has a problem developing young talent into players who perform at tournaments. But I’m not sure if that’s got anything to do with Jack Rodwell half-arsing his entire career.

I always like Rodwell, but Sunderland really shot themselves in the foot when they signed him. Never included their 40% salary reduction clause if relegated, and he's on about £70,000 per week with 18 months left on his contract. He'd be very lucky to get another club but, football being what it is, no doubt someone will take a punt on him.

Could have been such a good player had all the attributes, mentality again for me, he and Barkley all the talent in the world and no killer instinct.

Remember that goal against United though.
Spot on. Time will till if they both do blossom late on in there careers into what they should be, which should be top class or very near it by now. They may well still. You never know?

I remember the term someone came up with after another typical Rodwell performance. Less Birkdale more Kirkdale. Summed it up nicely. He had all the attributes physically with his height and build to be a dominant CM. But somewhere down the line it just didn’t happen.

I for one liked Rodwell when he was here. He did have crab tendencies in a team of crabs and tended to go awol in games for long stretches. Clearly he has now perfected this technique for S’land and goes permanently awol. Pity really, looked like he was going to be good for a bit.....

He's just a massive fanny. The type who looks imposing when he takes his shirt off after the match but is out injured for 6 months with a bruised wrist.

You know the sort, bangs his elbow and the next minute the sling is out.

This bloke is what’s wrong with football

Sitting off doing the bare minimum to get his wedge - turn up at the training ground and go into the gym and go home

Refuses to play and doesn’t want to be a footballer anymore - but happy to collect the footballer wages

Absolute bell I’m embarrassed he came from our academy

It’s not just that though he’s happily pocketing the wages and actively refusing to play or join the first team

He’s literally turning up (when not feigning injuries) to the club gym by himself and going home so as to not be in breach of contract and not get paid

He’s watched staff at the club get made redundant and all the cuts and slashes taking place there and asks to leave - no one would buy him so if he wants out that’s probably the only chance of going he has

How do you know this + surely if he was refusing to play he would be fined and in breach of contract

By the sounds of it, Sunderland want him to agree to tear up his contract and negotiate a cheaper way out for them.

If S'land didn't put a pay cut relegation clause in his contract, I can't say I blame the lad for not thinking that tearing up his contract is a great idea, I'd probably do the same myself. If he gets an offer from another club, even at a reduced wage, then that'd be a difference scenario, but I'd imagine S'land are going to have to take the hit and cough up something to get him off their books one way or t'other.

Talented lad, made of glass etc etc

Basically going to be the Cuco Martina option for us...

If Rodwell had Davies desire he'd have been a top player.

Plenty will take a punt. No one will pay him 70k
