Frankly I’m surprised more players don’t go this way.

Young lads with ££millions thrown at them & surrounded by people kissing their ar5e.

You either have motivation & drive in your makeup or you don’t. £50K A WEEK whether you play or not isn’t the best motivator.

Agree with this too much too soon, remember the days when they used to clean the full time pro's boots. Seriously the money in football, especially this country has gone ridiculous.

complete waste of talent, he was rated across europe as the best of his age group when he was 16/17, a lesson there for aspiring ballers, as far less talented players will have far better careers

Weirdly, the rumour going round is that he just doesn’t care for football, and he may just retire if he gets the payoff he desires!

Earned £12m off Sunderland and won’t go on a freebie, what a rat!
Remember how boss he was, both footed, athletic and looked as though he was going to be a very good footballer.

Turns out he wasn’t.
This!

If he was from a country that is actually good at developing young players (e.g. Germany, France or Croatia) he’d be a quality player in his prime now.

But no, he was a young English player who showed an ounce of talent so had to immediately be put on a multi-million pound a year deal. Life sorted at 20 in one stroke of a pen. No incentive to ever put in hard graft ever again.

Add to that an agent who advised a decent-ish young player that the best thing for his career was a move to man city. In terms of money yes, but in terms of success in the game absolutely not. How he thought when he was inconsistent at Everton, and in and out of the side, that he would get in man city’s team is beyond me.

Think of what some players in Africa or South America have to go through to get the same wealth. And that’s with the pressure of knowing that many members of their extended family are depending on them to “make it” in order to have any decent quality of life.

I remember Martinez tried to bring him back from City in his first window (this time 4 years ago I think) it didn't happen obviously, maybe things may have been different for Jack if it did.

I actually thought we got a good deal when we sold him and I wasn’t that bothered. City bought him based on “potential” he has not really progressed.

It will be interesting to see if he takes the free transfer. He’s on good money and it would be easy for him to just sit it out. If he does go on a free it wouldn’t surprise me if a team in the bottom half of the premier league signed him. I don’t think we should though, plenty of options in central midfield
