Okay that's the breaking point

We dont need him.

FFS, this is Everton. He knows how lucky he is to be here. He cant believe his luck we have an owner clueless enough to sack a manager with no one lined up and had to turn twice to him.

He;s out come June. He knows that too.

I think he will be gone also. The 18 month contract sam insisted on is so that he gets a pay off when he is released imo

Wasn't only Howard that cost martinez his job.....the incredibly small matter of ignoring the "how to defend" manual might have had something to do with it? ......:eek:

But......serious question here......how important is defending?

What I mean is a club like Everton with its resources will not get relegated. We just won't. If we have a half decent manager we get the "best of the rest" title. So unless there's a clear plan to break into the Sky 6 elite then if we don't play champagne attacking football - what really is the point?

I want to try and win cups and play great footy. I can take the heroic defeat all day long if we've given it a go. I'm just really not bothered whether we finish 7th or 14th to be honest.

We were being absolutely hammered by everybody we played because we had forgotten how to defend. Now we have remembered how, we are not getting hammered. Had we not remembered how, The RS and Chelsea would have put ten past us, West Brom would have beaten us. I think it is niave to think we cannot ever be relegated. On another point, I saw very few ‘heroic defeats’ in the run up to Allardyce being appointed. I saw the kind of gutless, can’t be arsed displays that are common amongst relegated clubs?

Every great Everton team I have ever watched could defend. the trophy winning Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea teams could play champagne football only because they could defend when they lost the ball. In fact I have never seen a successful English team that didn’t have a strong defensive base? I am not happy with the football we are playing, but we are in an awful state and need to be settled, restructured, then restarted again. Throwing defensive basics out of the window is not the safest of tactics as Martinez demonstrated?

Moyes, once our defence was structured properly, had us playing some nice football, and the team had the confidence to go forward knowing that we wouldn’t be hit on the break as the had a solid defence behind them. That is what we need to aim for again (minus the inferiority complex).

I can't argue with anything said in that post as it is spot on. But if we had a game where Allardyce was goung to have a go surely this was the one.
I've a feeling after he took a good look at the squad he's not been over impressed by our group of defenders,Williams has been better but is still far from the quality needed long term.He will have looked at the pressure WBA put Stoke under in the second half trying to equalise and decided without setting up as he did we would have lost ...thank God Rondon is useless.

Shoulda got Tony Pulis in. The fume isn't high enough under Allardyce.

The football so far has been underwhelming. It will probably remain underwhelming. But, it's not as if we were an attacking delight before BFS under Koeman / Unsy. If it's grimball and mid table security for a period so be it. The fume, however, will continue...

Use the Fume, Luke...

Joey cast your mind back to a british transfer record for a goalie.........David Lawson....my God he was bad.
Yes - but we paid the a record for Gordon West - a great keeper can get you points as much as a great striker or have both - big. Nev- Sharpy etc!
David Lawson was expensive rubbish but we were signing other rubbish then out of desperation!
My we were Poor one player saved us from relegation one season a certain then slightly balding Howard Kendall - without him we would or may have gone down in fact he pushed us safe, but we tried to play football it was after that the Catt was moved upstairs to a senior position because of health reasons andin came Billy Bingham with the most boring dirge football ever. Should have won the league one season with it - he was moved on sacked!
He fetched in some good players Duncan Mackenzie too late to save his job!
