ALLARDYCE - Any positives

Cant understand the negatives, back the man FFS!

Believe he will teach our defenders how to defend, especially positional wise (note the goal against Southampton with five players in a diagonal line), which is our biggest issue

With clean sheets we will win more games

Although I don't know what Sammy Lee will bring to the club except extra laundry?

Sammy Lee is a highly regarded coach.

Funny enough this has just been answered on RTG (post #314)

Pasted:
At Newcastle he inherited a side that had the likes of; Owen, Martins, Emre, Luque, Dyer, Solano, Duff, N'Zogbia, Milner, and Parker. That is in no way a side that lends itself to long ball football. That is a mobile, inventive, technically good, attacking side. Instead we sold a load of them and knocked it long for Viduka. We were comfortably midtable, had got to the 1/4s of the league cup, 3rd round of the FA cup, the round of 16 in the UEFA Cup, had a better than average defence and so on. He wasn't taking us on as relegation candidates.

His signings were;
Smith, Barton, Geremi - Combative midfielders
Abdoulaye Faye, Cacapa, Rozehnal - Big Strong Lump of a centre half, one and all
Beye, Enrique - to be fair, both good signings, but more defenders.
Viduka - a big strong powerful forward.

He got rid of;
Dyer, Parker, Solano, Luque,
Over one window he turned us into a long ball side and had that long ball football delivered similar "success" as the more attractive football did, I doubt we'd have disliked it so much. But the football was bloody awful and while we were getting results early on it was no surprise when the wheels soon fell off. We gave that Derby side their only win of the season because Allardyce played 3 defensive midfielders against the worst team in Premier League history, then brought on a lump of a centre half for one of those midfielders on the hour mark... lol

@cbwhu could tell you more about the football he played at West Ham, but it was dire at Newcastle and as I said, it's not like he didn't have quality players to play a more refined game.

Spot on post that from a magpie - which is surprising :P

MY hope is that because we had so large an influx of players during the summer - we won't do so again in January - which besides newcastle 2-3 years ago i can't remember any team doing a large influx during that window.

so that may minimise the damage long term that we could do by letting him loose to cut and change on a large scale - like he did at Newcastle for example.

so yeah he may bring 3-4 in tops, to do a job so to speak, but the club can carry that - and more than likely it will be a couple of defenders we probably need anyway to replace the ageing players (chances are we will bring in older players but ones with at least a bit left in them)

The negative feelings from many about bringing him and Lee into the club - could force the clubs hand in regards to keeping hold and possibly trying to get barkley to stay as well - because it'd be 'good PR' for the manager and board after the criticsm and negative feelings about the entire last 6 weeks (and longer tbh)

BIG worry is that we don't bin him at the end of the season and stupidly allow him the free reign of the squad (which for a manager with his specific way of playing would be a shambles to allow for a coach with a fixed one year left at the club), thats the fine balance imo - and that's something that worries me with this owner and board.

Anyone know What his record is like at Satan’s pit? Should I kindle any kind of hope for there or should I crawl under a rock for that game as I seem to have done for the last 15 years!

Won 2-1 with Palace last time he was there. Drew 2-2 with Sunderland the season before that. A 0-0 draw for West Ham in their first season back in the top flight. Been a few hammerings too though.

His record against Liverpool is this in full played 26, won 5 drew 6 lost 16

Up until last season when Palace beat them at the pit though he had never won before there, played 13, won 0, drew 3, lost 10

Which is why the narrative he will get us a result there seems a bit weird to say the least

as i said mate, record was won 0 drew 3 lost 10 before last season.
He was here for 10 years, this is entirely with us.
