When Unsworth was first appointed many people drew parallels between the promotion of Guardiola and Zidane, this ignored the major advantage these former players had of having a period of time managing their respective B teams. These teams play in fully competitive leagues against teams aspiring to ultimately make it to the top.
More importantly they are faced with rival managers who, in many cases ,who have far more experience and nous in how they set up and manage their games. It is an important aspect in their learning curve.
This is largely missing in our U23 leagues , where you are largely faced with young trainee managers like yourself. There is also more of an emphasis on developing young players and less on experimenting with tactics. In fact , the more basic the tactics the easier it is to integrate young players in the side and allow them to develop without over complicating their role on the pitch.
There is emphasis on man management and motivating young players to reach their limits , which while it is also important in first team management, it is surely a different proposition dealing with experienced players than youngsters.
In many ways the old central league delivered a closer approximation of full on red blooded first team football. Reserve teams contained a mixture of youngsters and first team players ( in the days of only 1 sub) who hadn't been selected or who were recovering from injury.
What we are seeing at the moment is a manager who is struggling to make the step up to first team management. He is effectively doing his ' B team' season with the first team. He seems to have introduced a bit more fight into the side but little else at present. I have personally found his team selection and tactics fairly poor up to this point.
We do not know how long he will take to find his feet in this league, if indeed he can. Had he had the chance to manage a stable 7th place team it would have given him more room to learn and make mistakes. We do not have that luxury.
If we continue on our current trajectory I can only envisage us being in or close to the relegation struggle by January. Then the poo gets serious.

What he wants and what he is capable of are worlds apart. If he was made permanent we'd be going back to the good old plucky little Everton days. In addition how could we attract quality players with him in charge, imagine the scenario when the agent approaches the player to say Everton are interested in signing you.
Player: "who is the Everton manager"
Agent: "It's David Rhino Unsworth"
Player: "Who"
"We'll see Monday"....think he's already been told its not him & its more or less done ?

With all due respect to the entire Everton backline, Unsworth has three centre backs in Williams Jagielka and Keane with Baines as his only left back and I honestly believe no manager would be able to do much to stop shipping goals...it's going to be a massive struggle till January...

If Rhino wasn't available, for what ever reason, would Ebbrill be our manager ? If so that is a bit scary.
Much as I would have loved David Unsworth to have taken over and transformed our fortunes it was never going to happen. I think the players may be a bit more committed when playing for him unfortunately commitment is not enough in the Premier league.
David Unsworth has earned the respect of football people, is time at the helm of Everton Football Club should do nothing to diminish that respect.
If he is replaced this week I hope he is happy to go back to the under 23s and continue the good work he has done. Everton FC is stronger with people like David Unsworth working away in the background.
