I don't agree with much that Merson says, but I think he's spot on here.
Tuchel - I don't know that much about him but from what I've heard I'd rather not go for him. Had trouble with boards at the clubs he's been at, apparently a bit arrogant and players fall out with him. Also his tactics are completely different to how we play and we would need 6-7 new players to suit it.
Another one who people think will be amazing as they are German and anything to do with German football atm is amazing. Like the German GK craze because Neuer is a great keeper, but the some German goalkeepers that have come over to the PL aren't all that.
I've said German quite a lot there...
Ancelotti - can't see him coming here and think it would just be another job for him.
Also I've seen the u23s play some great football, one touch football, movement, hard work and winning lots of games.
Have wanted Unsworth to be our next manager for a while and glad he's getting given a go!
The German obsession phase of Football is years gone. Tuchel should be the choice, he is the better manager and we shouldn't be picking a manager solely based on sentimental purposes.
theres not even a decision to be made, IF Tuchel will come, is there c-dawg.
one man has zero top flight experience, the other has run Bayern Munich close a couple of times, when they had Pep!
And it WILL click.
If Tuchel will come, it's not even close as to who should be the choice Wiz.
Oh ok, my interest in anything other than Everton football wise has dramatically reduced last few years. The German obsession phase of Football is years gone. Tuchel should be the choice, he is the better manager and we shouldn't be picking a manager solely based on sentimental purposes.
That's a chance that someone in Unsworth's position has to take. The prize is massive. The downside could be as bad for him as you suggest, but that's life.Disagree, its forcing everyone into a corner, if things dont work out Unsworth will be forrced to leave the club in my opinion and we have lost a very good U23 coach, like Waggy plying his wears at Newcastle, the club would loose a great club man and obviously an excellent coach which is a huge shame. He has a pivotal role in the pathway and development of players into the senior squad.
Like i say if the players want him they have five or so games to improve performences to back him, its good management. If results are good win/win.
While there is space and time to bring in a fire fighter if required, to be frank for the good showing he has had so far, he has only been in charge for one PL game ever (i think). Its good board management to reduce the amount of risk around this while being fair.
Stakes are to high for a snap decision in my opinion as tempting as chest beating is.
And it WILL click.
Make no mistake, this season is a write off. We need a sensible and pragmatic choice of manager to get us through it. The players will work for Unsworth. That will get us through.
haha lol
haha lol
like others have mentioned tho Con, I think if unsworth does OK, couple wins couple draws, then we might up with an inferior manager in the long run.
going to be interesting to see the mentality of the board here. (I think we all know tho)
Moshiri wanted a 'hollywood' manager to rival the north west big 3 clubs.
we will end up with a Rhino

Still my comments for hiring Unsworth are not sentimental. If he hadn't done so well with the u23s I wouldn't want him as manager, never wanted Stubbs as didn't think he would be good enough.
Well what do we hope to achieve now?
8 points on the table with a quarter of the season gone. Even with a run of better performances we dont have the attack to pick up a lot of wins.
I just dont know how anyone can look at it and think: new manager = Everton challenging for Europe.
